My Ranger has only 527 miles on it and I know mileage will improve as the engine gets some miles on it but I have been averaging 19.5 each day for the past 4 days. It’s only to work and back and the same route but am I that consistent of a driver? Or could the computer be broken?

Why don't you compare it to calculated? Fill up at the beginning and the end at the same pump for best results. Also if it is off, you can calibrate it.
So simple answer, no one can answer your question until you do the above.

Mine would be+/- 1 mpg usually per computer, but calculated it would be 1-3 off. Depends on the type of gas you get (chevron vs wawa), weather etc.
My mileage didnt change after break in when i got mine brand new fwiw.

The average fuel mileage changes less and less the more miles you have on trip odometer. So, unless you are resetting it everyday, you are going to see smaller and smaller changes of the average if any at all. Assuming this is city driving, 20mpg is normal for this truck.

At 42k I consistently get 20mpg and calculating mileage is within 3-5 tenths of the trucks computer. 90% city.

edit; burning the lowest cost regular I can find with a performance tune. I’ve noticed no difference in mpg’s or performance between the tune and running stock, no ping either.

What grade of gas is the 19.5 with? 87, 91, etc? If it is 87 and/or you are pushing above 65mph or in stop and go, 19.5 seems reasonable. I notice a ~2mpg difference with 87 vs 92/93.

I've found that since my move to New Mexico, my computer is usually within 1 mpg of the hand calculation. When I was in Washington, it could be 2-3 mpg off...Not sure what caused that, used to only run 87 in WA, now I run the Eco 88 stuff from Maverick since regular here is 85.

I drive from North Texas (near Oklahoma border) to Dallas 3 days a week, avg 140 miles round trip per day and I am seeing 22.5-23.5 on the highway with cruise set at 75mph.

It’s “city-ish” driving. I’m just fascinated that it’s saying 19.3 the last several days. Overall I’m pretty impressed with the mileage.

In a few weeks it’s going on a 2200 mile road trip so interesting to see the mileage then.

The initial tank of gas no sure octane but I have Exxon 93 in it now. Truck had 169 miles on it when I bought it.

It’s been mostly stop and go, with some short highway bursts.

Oh, my....you managed to cause me to do something I've been meaning to do for a month or three now. ARGH!

I have a '21 SCrew 4WD with no "mods" to engine or suspension. 14,000 miles. Bought it new.
91 Octane exclusively from day one (Costco).
Daily driver, about 80% freeway @ 69-70 mph on avg, and 20% surface streets @ probably 40 mph avg.
Dash says my mpg avg over the last 13 weeks is 24.73.
Hand calculation for the same period is 21.20 (heavy sigh...).
I'm going to recalculate all that in the hopes I've made a terrible awful mistake.

What I HAVE noticed, though, is my mileage (per the dash) has increased on average from what it was when I first bought the truck, so I guess the "break-in" period has a bit of legitimacy to it, but as anyone will tell you..."your mileage may vary".

**Edit**I was right...in that I was probably wrong. I suck at math.
Hand calculation turned out to be 23.23.
I feel much better now! :)

My Lariat's computer always shows just under 22mpg whenever I fill it up. A good mix of urban/rural highways, slanting toward the 'rural' part. I use 93 E0 and the FRPP Ecoboost Performance Tune.:)

Edit: My previous 2006 4WD Ranger w/4.0L averaged 19-20 mpg on 87 E0. My 2001 Ranger Supercab XLT 2WD 4.0L averaged about the same as my current Ranger using 87 E0. Seems like my '88 Ranger 2 WD swb standard cab with the 2.9L and 93 averaged 22-23 mpg. All have automatic transmissions.

Mine was stuck around 19MPG for the first year. Nowadays I'm around 22.5 (the left foot has gotten lighter which helps) but it doesn't vary wildly, it's always on or around the same figure

Just did a ~1300mi trip and averaged just shy of 22mpg while towing my squaredrop camper. So far that's my best while towing this thing.

If I'm going better than 50% highway mileage, I generally average better than 24mpg. I've managed up to 29+mpg for really long freeway drives.
