Anyone using the new GTX Full Synthetic? It's about $3-$5 a quart cheaper than the Edge. Data sheet shows a better pour point and it SN plus rated. I know there's a lot of oil discussions on here, so why not one more, right?

SP-rated, should be fine. Used oil analysis comparing both is the only way to know for sure. At BobIsTheOilGuy.com you may find some UOA's posted.

A quality SP synthetic will be fine. Pick your poison.

Just put this in my wife's Crosstrek last week. Agree that the price point is good. I don't bother with oil changes on the Ranger due to the stupid filter location. I do everything else on this and other vehicles.

I buy whatever synthetic that is on sale at Walmart at the time I need to do an oil change. Usually about $22 for a 5qt jug. I buy two and use the second for the extra qt the Ranger takes for the next 5 oil changes.

So you have used different brands depending on price that day?

I always do.
As long as the oil meets specs and has the API seal on the bottle.
These days Synthetics are going for decent prices...even though conventional is good too.
For me, 5K max on the oil changes.
Wallyworld's Supertech Synthetic is what's in my Ranger now.
I've read that the high mileage oils are very good too...they have stout additives. I've used these oils in my new vehicles as well.

I'm sticking with Castrol on my truck. I was using Penznoil UP and the couple of oil analysis I sent in all had some fuel dilution. I switched to Castrol Edge and at the next oil change I sent it it in for another analysis and fuel dilution was 0. I don't know if it was the oil or environmental changes, but it was enough to convince me to stick with Castrol.

Yes, most of the time Mobil 1 is the least expensive but I have used Pennzoil, Quaker State, Castrol, Valvoline, etc. The Ranger currently has Valvoline in it and I have a couple of jugs of Mobil 1 on the shelf for the next oil change. As long as it is the correct API service rating (SN+ or SP) and viscosity I am good to go.

Oil is important, but the real question is how often should you change it.
