I have a 2021 FX4 with only 11,500 miles on it.

About 45 minutes ago I was doing my daily drive in to work and while accelerating to merge on the the highway my truck seemed to either throw a gear or completely fall out of gear. I lost all power in acceleration and got tossed forward in my seat as the truck locked up its tires for a brief moment and the RPM gauge went nuts.

The truck seemed to correct itself after that and found a gear to shift into but it was clearly in limp mode. I had no power in accelerating!
I pulled off the highway and gave it a once over and didn't find any leaks, I turned off the truck and waited for 30 seconds then drove it home on back roads.

Now I'm sitting here thinking the transmission is shot on a brand new truck and trying to schedule a service appointment at our local dealer as it under warranty.

I'm sure someone out there has experienced this before and can point me in the right direction, is the truck safe to drive on the highway?

Must be a full moon or something.

Yesterday, turning onto the road our house faces (it is a very steep road). As I turned right off onto our road, the transmission never downshifted. It lugged big time (I mean like it was in 4th gear, going slow up a steep hill), then (like me when I absentmidnedly remember I am supposed to be doing something), downshifted. Very strange.

Was it the collision mitigation? did the dash light up, this would have only happened if you were accelerating up on a slower vehicle.
That sounds very much like what happened.

Perhaps with the exception of the revs going nuts and the limp home mode stuff, very strange.

Could be low transmission fluid level.

The other could be sun spots! Yup you read that right. Just saw a news article that said the sun ejected two massive Coronas. One ate the other and we saw some of the affects of that already. More to come too. Being this is all electronics in our Rangers wouldn’t surprise me that some of us got weird things going on.

When I see stuff like that, I always think of the international space station, sure hope they have that shielding stuff all worked out. ;)

OP said it went into limp mode...with his low miles, seems like something's off with his trans...

if it was limp home mode surprised no mil , might want to check for stored codes in the powertrain memory.

called my dealership for a service appointment this morning, earliest I can get in is August 30th

WTF...

I asked for a courtesy vehicle in the meantime and they said no..... then I got angry and repeated the the truck is brand new and unsafe to drive in this condition... they said they'd call back with an answer about a courtesy car and they never did ...

the pre-collision assist going off sounds interesting but the dash never lit up with the red warning plus it never gave me any codes or a check engine light....so its sitting in the driveway since this morning and I am not going to drive it until the dealer gets back to me which I know they won't I will have to call again

Had something similar happen with my 2019. I had around 5,000 miles when it happened. What did I do? I reset the transmission learn and had no issues ever since. Chances are there is no code set.

That's why you have to have a backup vehicle! Even if it is a "Dodge" mine is reliable as hell.
