Ohh and those tires, while they'll work for a little bit, are not great.

If it takes you 4 $300 sets of tires to last what one new set would last you're at $1200, add in mounting and balancing for 4 sets, and you might as well have bought a new set of tires.

They look okay, but I'd guess well over 10K miles. As well, "E" rated tires can be sketchy when balancing and may need re-balance periodically, but even if half worn, $300 is a decent price.

If you are going to do used tires, it's well worth it to buy a tread depth gauge (Amazon, under $10). Check them all, and have the factory specs available to reference when you are there inspecting them. It ends any bickering or speculation about how much wear is remaining.

Don't just look at one side of the tire. Do a close look around the whole outside, and check depth in multiple locations to ensure they have even wear. If not mounted as they are, also look at the inside for any patches, or signs of degradation (surface cracks or inconsistencies)

I've bought a few sets of used tires, but also walked away from some. There is risk and additional cost of mount/balance, so the price has to be reflected in that. I won't pay more than ~60-70% of cost for remaining wear. Meaning if they have 50% life, I'll only pay ~30% of MSRP. 80% remaining wear ~50% MSRP.

Lastly, used tires is a buyers market. Most people just want them gone and if they've been on the market for more than a week will be pretty flexible.

I will add to this advice to check date codes as well. A lot of tire shops will refuse to mount tires of a certain vintage. No matter how much tread they have left.

Good call, I meant to mention it and forget.

See I hate buying new tires, partially because I’m 20 and don’t have $1500 floating around. And I bought some Nitto trail grapplers for $150 and they’ve been good to me for about 6 months but they’re almost done for

Considering you have a 30k+$ dollar vehicle.... you should probably be able to afford to put NEW tires on it when needed.

My first car payment was admittedly too much for me at your age too though lol so.. take this as an oppurtunity to live and learn.

Offer up or Facebook is a great place to buy tires. I can find 4-5 year old brand new tires for that price. I drive a lot so I replace them every two years before age becomes an issue. However it's a better deal than used and looking like those. My last set was Goodyear with kevlar, 5 years old, brand new, and $350. Keep an eye out and be willing to use any brand.

A great place to get some new tires is over on the Bronco forum. Many there are selling them with little to no miles on them. There's all sorts of sizes on there and some with wheels for not much more than these used ones you're looking at.

I'll do the same minus the badge. lol I've also told some we will meet at the police station if I was selling something expensive. I've had a few back out at the last minute but several (the honest ones) didn't have a problem with it and later said they felt more comfortable meeting there too.
As a seller, I've had multiple people suddenly go radio silent after seemingly coming to a deal, always after I let them know our meeting place will be a public space where there is conspicuous security cameras.

In the last town I lived in, the police advertised their station as a place to do Craigslist transactions after one such deal went awry and ultimately involved gunshots.

Also wondering about unsprung weight. I have Nitto trail grappler 285/65r18 and they weight 68lbs where these ko2’s weigh like 56lbs. Will I notice a huge difference in fuel economy, acceleration, ride comfort? That’s about a 50lb weight difference
Huge difference? Probably not.

if they as new as seller claims and dont have any unknown damages etc. id say thats a smokin deal. I think I paid about 240 ish a tire for my ko2s. Id recommend checking the date of manufacture of the tires before handing over any cash. Any tire more than 3 years I would not buy. Any tire more than 5 years old I would not trust even for a spare unless its been in climate controlled storage.
That was a really good deal on your new K02’s. I think I paid like $300 a tire all in on my last set. Sometimes I think I have to get out of impulse buy mode and start shopping for sales more.

All this tire talk has me thinking maybe I won’t wear these near new Hankook’s out, but just start shopping for a good deal on so,e K02’s. I love those tires. Hopefully the fever will pass before I can actually get out of bed long enough to go down and get them M&B’ed. ;)

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Kind of funny sidebar: When I meet someone to buy something, I'm in regular clothing, but have my leather OWB holster and badge next to it. This is strictly a message for anyone attempting to setup a robbery or other shading deal by meeting unsuspecting victims through online group buying groups its probably not in their best interest to proceed.

There has been more than one occasion where the person "changed their mind", or before I could even say anything other than greeting them, "Oh man, my mistake I brought the wrong one" , or "My bad this is a little more worn out than I remember."

This has happened with all manners of people, even people clearly well off money-wise. Trying to rip someone off with false advertising is one of those little white lie crimes people do and they can still go to bed at night and shrug it off.
HAHA! This is funny, as I do exactly the same thing, funny how sometimes the story changes when they see the bottom of the holster and badge peeking out of my open shirt. I have even had a 'perp' run off when I get out of the car.
