Shit. I'm paying $45/mo for 500MB fiber internet service. Probably about as much per month for all the streaming services I choose to pay for. Less than $100/mo all in. Also have an antenna (mine's in the attic so I could just avoid the HOA). Cell phone for two lines of "unlimited" Verizon is just a little bit more than that, maybe $120/mo.
Our internet is expensive here. I pay $77/month for only 250MB from Cox. The cell phones aren't to bad because I added my girlfriend and her daughter to mine so we have a unlimited family plan with a 55+ senior discount which comes out to just under $30/each.

Hi Joe,

A Sirius backstory... Maybe already posted...I do not recall.... For some strange Marketing indicated that Ranger buyers would be interested in Sirius Radio more than any other Ford Model purchaser, so they came to me as Ranger Vehicle Engineering. What? Not Ranger buyers in my experience. So being customer driven, we had the Sirius people to a meeting. They had big plans but we had to modify our vehicle radio with a Dongle and coverage of the USA depended on the French Rocket in French Ghana. So I am going to reengineer the Ranger in hopes that the Rocket makes orbit.... I did not think Ranger buyers were in the category and declined the tearup to the Ranger electric system/Radio. Glad I did at that time, but Sirius is now in the sunset again... We have a receiver to our home sound system I installed with the initial build of our house, and it works well for us. We have music in the house all the waking hours...

So the compromise of my wife, Margie and me, is what music...We compromised on Smooth Jazz. My Pink Floyd vs her Elvis... Oh well, Jazz it is...

So back to the backstory, Ranger buyers were not interested in purchasing Sirius and my "No way" for Ranger was well placed....But Times have changed... JMHO Sirius has come to the end of its useful life in the next few years...

Best,
Phil

Yeah I don't see how they can continue charging what they charge when streaming is so widely available

I have XM at home with the $6.50/Month plan, paid annually, spend an extra $5 a month for XM streaming then use Apple Car play for the truck, along with Pandora. Bonus is with a Bluetooth speaker I can get it around the camp site or at the beach. My home internet is $25 a month from Verizon 5G wireless.
I tried the Verizon 5G internet back in March. It didn't work well here and we kept having outages and my gf works from home and we need consistent internet. Sucks because it was a great deal for $25/month.

Interesting story.

We also get an unknown number of 'music only' channels with our cable service. 'Light Classical' is the compromise of choice, some interesting graphics, although not terribly efficient powerwise.

Living room 'media center' has 'surround sound' (10 speakers) and a substantial woofer. Looks like a museum more and more....

At the moment, we're listening to the local classical radio station over the air (also streams) WDAV.

Don't forget to download the app so you can stream all the channels/songs they have licenses to stream but not broadcast - there's way more content on their app than what's available from the satellite feed. You can't use it in the boonies but if you're getting cell service, you're good to go..

Thanks for the info! I knew they had an app but didn't know there were other songs on it.

We have a tower in the park a block away, get a great signal. Speed test shows 350/20 and no outrages so far.

Interesting, as I was using a bluetooth adapter in my previous Mustang and Marauder to stream all of the content off of my iPhone, including SiriusXM.

I get a full signal here with my cell but for some reason the cube wouldn't stay connected. You have to have it placed near a window and the red dot turns to white. There was only one place in my house it would come in like that but it never stayed connected for more than 24 hours. Plus the speed test I ran were almost the same as my cable internet which has been solid for us. Oh well maybe they'll improve it here and I can try again in the future.

Besides being able to stream Sirius on your mobile device and at home, Sirius bought Pandora a couple of years ago, so they’re very much in the streaming game, too.

The satellite portion might go away some time in the future, but you can already use the Sirius app through CarPlay.

I bought a lifetime plan back in 2004. It used to be a challenge to switch it between cars, but now it is super easy and cheaper. I paid a one time charge of $75 per transfer each time I transferred the account to a new car, but it was only $39 when I transferred it to my Ranger.

I love it. It’s all I listen to in my Ranger except for an occasional podcast.

My cable was $90 a month just for net only, speed was 100/6 so the Verizon 5G is much cheaper and faster so far. I did have to get a DDNS to forward my IP to the home security system because Verizon seems to change my IP address every couple of days.

I believe it has to do with the licenses they got in the Pandora deal, which are for streaming vs broadcasting. During the Wyoming trip, within the first two days we heard every song Sirius has for the Classic Vinyl channel a few times over lol.

It's still not quite on the level of content Spotify and Amazon Music has and you can't choose songs or albums, but they have a lot more curated channels and within those, they have a lot more songs/artists

We can't get sirius here. No coverage. And it sucks that it can not be disabled in the radio. I still have to scroll through all three banks when scrolling sources to get from phone to radio. And if my phone doesn't connect when I start my truck, the system defaults to Sirius 1. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just a flippin' annoyance.
