But the fact is it can go into R.
Pushing the button yes it can go into R

Confirmed this morning that it takes no effort to skip D and go right to N.
Keep going to R and have someone sit in the back seat recording the person behind you. ? Your rear camera will come on too so you'll be able to see the shock on their face too. lol

Maybe it really didn't go into N. It's hard to see because mine doesn't light up like yours. ?

I'll go get a picture of the really non ergonomic way I pressed it and give it a whirl. Only happened once for me, but sitting in my driveway I figured out how to repeat it.

Your technique may be the issue , looks like your trying to shoo your cat ? off your keyboard ... if you shift like that , you'll go right past D all the way to F... (F is for "Fabulous " of course )

My '63 Plymouth had a pushbutton Torqflite. If I pushed R from any forward gears, a pawl would prevent R from being pushed all the way in. But I could push it in about 1/4", just enough to trigger the backup lights while still in D.

Retired from Honda Racing.
We used to occasionally get cars in the dealer in the 90's that had either been shifted into reverse or all the way to park at speed.
Most of the time there was no real damage, except to the shorts of the driver, although, every now and again it would crack the trans case from the parking pawl.

I personally stuffed it into reverse on my 79 F250, on a super long 4 lane downhill, I was on the verge of running out of gas, I thought "I'll just pop it into neutral" those early shift collars were always half worn out at best, well, once it dropped into reverse not neutral and the rear tires started to howl and smoke for the 1-2 seconds it took me to correct it, looking in the rear view mirror, all the cars behind me were on the brakes and dropping out of sight.

I went to work and the trans guy looked at me like I was stupid (he was right) he laughed and said that it should be fine, but if I ever loose my brakes go for reverse not park, park wont slow you down, it will just make noise.

I could sell my home gym at that point too, and maybe get a hard bed cover, and a bed rug to protect all my valuables I purchased at the mall. Excellent idea. Make it a smedium please.

I did it accidentally on our 1974 Chevy pick up when I was in high school. Luckily there was snow on the ground and it didn't damage it. I thought oh, crap! It's bad enough I hit a stop sign and damaged the rear quarter panel. Dad was PISSED!

I played around with this yesterday. Had a few miles of rough off road, and hand resting on shifter, S to D slip was frequent. So effortless in fact, at times I didn't even notice I did it

But regular driving, it took me some effort to go from S to N. Prob the same effort the old column shifters us to need to shift. I can't see that happening by accident.
