Probably not. I do not like taking my vehicles to the dealership for anything. I can replicate the issue in my driveway. Just depends on what part of the shifter I push on. Honestly it will probably never see the dealer again. Warranty will be up by next summer anyway. It's only 9 months old and touching 20k.
I think the shifter falls under the 5/60k drivetrain warranty.

But if one can easily skate over D into N, what's to stop one from inadvertently hitting reverse?

An innocent question turned me into a caffeine fueled, gear smashing caveman. This was fun, thank you.
Congradulation Derek! We take pride in driving out newbies before end of first page of their first thread...now that you've made it to 3rd page, you understand that we're bunch of old farts who enjoy making fun and it's the only reason we're here....?

Nothing, but it doesn't matter as the computer will keep it in D. I'd love to see the look on the guys face behind you though when you're going 70 mph and the reverse lights come on.

I tried pushing mine hard from S to D and it stayed firm on D. I've never had it go past D and I've hit some really hard bumps when off road with my hand on the shifter. Maybe this was another cost cutting corner from Ford and you all got the weaker detent and my 2019 has the good one. :lipssealed::shock:
Maybe they dont have tailgate strut assist and still have strong arms!!

Hi Dave,

You are correct....We leaned this long ago with the first electronic controlled transmissions....First testing ended up in a pile of parts and we quickly added software revisions to stop this sort of malady...

Best,
Phil

Wow, you're all wrong! The P (a.k.a. "the D"), goes in the V! And I don't know what an N or an S is but I'd sure like to find out.

But the fact is it can go into R.

Confirmed this morning that it takes no effort to skip D and go right to N.
