Thanks everyone for verifying that this happens to you too. I was afraid the detent was going bad, did not want it to get worse.

Maybe you need a little practice shifting and less drinking.

Anyone else imagining him having too much coffee and all but karate chopping the shifter from S to N.

I checked this when I drove mine to lunch just now.

If I shift normally, it hits a detent and stops at D.

If I shift quickly, it glides right over the detent and hits N.

I think what you're experiencing is par for the course.

Will Ford do anything to address it?

Who knows, but I suspect he dealer line is going to be "They all do that".

Maybe Phil will chime in from a manufacturer's perspective.

I didn't want to ping him in this thread as I think he's pretty busy, but maybe he'll catch it on a drive by.
Hi Dennis,

I really do not have a direct clue on the current Ranger, but can offer up that there is a fine line on shifters where complaints is the button is too hard to press fully and too soft a touch which allows this detent skate... Looks like it is operating to design intent.

What I would recommend is to open up a formal complaint for all folks that have experienced this, which may spark an investigation by Engineering...Not guaranteed but worth a shot. I personally have not experienced this on my 2019 Ranger.

YEP...busy...we are closing up the RV here in Flagstaff in prep for our trip to Michigan to care for our handicapped Daughter...She is very close to holding the same job for 30 years now...working with the severely handicapped children.

Best,
Phil

I did post this close to midnight and was up at 5am responding to people, so I wouldn't be surprised if it made zero sense to some people. Glad to know other people had it happen.

I tried pushing mine hard from S to D and it stayed firm on D. I've never had it go past D and I've hit some really hard bumps when off road with my hand on the shifter. Maybe this was another cost cutting corner from Ford and you all got the weaker detent and my 2019 has the good one. :lipssealed::shock:

Maybe it really didn't go into N. It's hard to see because mine doesn't light up like yours. ?

I'll go get a picture of the really non ergonomic way I pressed it and give it a whirl. Only happened once for me, but sitting in my driveway I figured out how to repeat it.

Mine slips into D very easily, I can use 1 finger to push the shifter and it goes in that easy. There's no way it's going past D into N unless I use a hammer.

It's my first floor shifter give me a break. Can't go full send like a sequential I guess.
Me hyped on coffee and a bit of road rage + my big coffee mug broke a clip on the cup holder. Smacked the top of the big yeti and it broke the tiny clip

So I can't say much.

Or...slightest of pressure on the trigger...keep finger away from trigger while pushing forward...
