Had a question for everyone on here that live in the great white north!
Does anyone have a good auto insurer who will cover a truck with a mishimoto CAI & mbrp dual exhaust? It seems they are “performance enhancing” parts that make my insurance invalid. I either have to take them off or find another insurer.

thanks in advance!

Just tell them you took it off?

Why would you tell your insurance company about those anyway?

It's not like they're gonna inspect your truck are they?

What, do the insurance companies "up there" inspect your vehicles before insuring them ???

It sounded odd to me and my car’s policy renewal showed up in the mail today. Nothing in the fine print, but this is on the back of page one….

That’s pretty open to interpretation - they’d likely have to prove “it was all the mods”.

That’s certainly not the norm. Bought my insurance online, received a copy in the mail.

Yep. Their contract lawyer should be fired.

I made those modifications to improve efficiency and sound. Just so happened they MIGHT have also increased performance.

With insurers always looking for ways to get out of their obligations, I worry that if I were to get into an accident and something bad happened that my insurance would be invalid and I’d be at fault.

I can understand that fear. But you'd really have to take the accident circumstances into play.

They aren't gonna try and deny coverage on a fender bender because of an exhaust. Now if you crash into a Lexus, killing a surgeon whose a father of 4 while street racing, you're probably fucked.

If you're really worried about it just keep your factory parts and swap them on before filing any claims.

I'm too far south to need insurance for the Canadians invading.

Sorry had to, first thing I thought of when I read the title. Can't help with this question. Just my smart a$$ comment of the day.
All folks in AZ and FL would be wise to take out Snowbird Insurance. You can never have too much protection against them!

Why you made the changes is irrelevant. They have a list of "performance" parts that void your coverage. "I put a Coyote in for the imrpoved sound and added a super charger for the look" doesn't cut it.

they also dont want to pay for damaged aftermarket parts, that is unless you paid the premium for it.

so dont expect them to replace broken air cleaners and exhaust beyond stock items
I called almost every provider in Ontario, none would take my Ranger with CAI and MagnoFlo exhaust. I even asked about higher premiums, or if I got it appraised. Flat out 'no', with no discussion to be had.

Having worked in the auto body repair business, and then in the towing industry, I have seen how devious the auto insurance business is. They would absolutely try to deny a small claim, then cancel your coverage as well. This would also work against you when trying to find more coverage, a cancellation is as bad or worse than a claim here.

If it were a major indecent which you were found at fault, and speed, or aggressive driving were a factor, they'd do a full inspection and you could be liable for the personal injury and associated costs as well.

Removing parts before a claim is predicated on planned claims, and having the opportunity to do work before the adjuster sees the vehicle. In the worst scenarios, you don't have that option and could be looking at millions in damages.

I had mixed emotions about the CAI & exhaust, so I wasn't too upset that I had to remove them. The lost money was a bigger piss off, but lesson learned. Do the research before spending the money.

To me performance enhancing parts would be Nitro or traction bars with racing slicks along with headers into glass packs.

Simple aftermarket parts are usually what you go to when factory installed rust out or wear out eventually anyways. Even better brakes and rotors are enhancements.

More specifically you must mean an insurer in Ontario. Out here in Saskatchewan they don’t question anything or inspect it once it’s insured in the province initially. I could Coyote swap it, lift it 12” and put 40’s on my truck and it wouldn’t affect my coverage.
