Quick stop in Flagstaff to top off the tank and my stomach. Lol One of our favorite places is MartAnne’s where you still get huge portions

One thing I always loved about living here is you can go from the cactus in the desert to the fresh mountain air in Flagstaff in about 2 hours. At 7,000’ it’s only 67 degrees now, 20 degrees cooler than the valley. ?

My daughter and son-in-law are up at Moab spending a few days to tourista-ville...went horse back riding, river rafting, petroglyph trail hike, Bridges...

If everyday except Sunday wasn't a Saturday for us, I'd consider a vacation from retirement, but nah!!! ?

Have fun and watch out for all those cars from CA trying to get away ?

After almost 12 months of planning the first leg of our month long journey begins today in Durango, CO which is about 475 miles. We’ll stop up in Flagstaff for breakfast and top off the tank then off to Monument Valley and Mexican Hat in Southern Utah. We’ve already stopped at Four Corners on our last trip up to Durango so we’ll skip it this time as it was nice to see once but not worth stopping again.

Of course we've both been fighting a cold this week and I can never sleep the night before a trip so it'll be an interesting drive. lol I would like to say thanks again to everyone who made suggestions in the other thread as it really helped in planning this trip. Especially the UT ones where it looks like there’s so much to do in Canyonlands NP between the park itself and the off road trails surround it. I also appreciate all the texts and PM’s in the past few days wishing us well along the way. :like: :fistbump:
Have a great and safe trip Dave! Did you prearrange a bank loan for the fuel bill?

We enjoy these spots in Flagstaff alot:

Toasted owl for Breakfast
Mama Burgers for Lunch
Sosaba for Dinner
Wow I think we've actually been to two of those places when we were in the US South West back in 2017! I'll dig through my photo files, I might have a pic somewhere.

Couldn't find the Flagstaff pics, plenty of Sedona though.

Just a heads up Dave. It's hail season out here on the high plains. Once you get over the Rockies you'll want to keep an eye on the sky and take note of the freeway overpasses you pass through. If you hear just one *tink* boogie to an overpass and wait it out.

Even 303 can't dissappear hail damage!

Drive safe!

Had a crazy freak hailstorm here to the point I thought my windshield was gonna break. Iirc its tempered glass and the truck took a beating without getting a dent but yeah echoing the advice to find cover!

Have a good trip AZ!

The thing with hail is you just never know. There's been a few times I've gotten lucky, but if there's cover available I'm ducking in and waiting.

I'd be most worried about the aluminum panels.

Yes I forgot you guys are coming into summer, we have some whoppers here too every summer, in fact, they seem to be getting worse every year - ?Global Warming. Possibly just climate cycle, no one has lived here long enough with records to know for sure.

But it's safe to park in the open now until mi-late October, will be scary then until about Christmas, and then the hailstorm risk goes down a bit, as the tropical monsoon comes south and replaces the storms with mostly wet season rain until late March / April

I'm sure that the CEO's of Insurance companies here start regularly attending church, and praying about the end of September every year. Didn't help them this year, multiple whopper hail storms, two major floods in three months!

Stay safe!

I hope so. lol Even if I don't take pictures my gf will take enough for both. Last time I looked she had over 6,000 pics on her phone.

I hope your mom is doing well Mark and the stress for yourself is easing up a little. We'll continue to pray for a speedy recovery!?
thank you so much my brother!
