Actually, I am curious at about what mileage you or maybe a dealership/oil change quick lube location, completed the first oil change in your Ranger?
I am getting close to 1,000 miles on mine and soon I will complete the first oil change myself with full synthetic.
After that, full synthetic oil changes every 3000 miles.
What say you???
Thanks :like:

Unless you really are hard on your Ranger, 4-5000 miles on synthetic and a good filter (Motorcraft) is OK.
If your hard on it, like off-roading or towing long distances, frequently carrying heavy loads, I'd go 3-4000 miles.
Changing at 3000 miles is throwing money away.
I changed my OE oik at 3000 miles, and next is planned at 7500-8000, and I tow a 6800 lb travel trailer every 2-3 weeks.

You are probably correct on oil change intervals, however I will not be putting a lot of miles on mine so 3000 miles will probably be about every 6-8 months. Plus I don't mind wrenching and I feel that having fresh oil in it is kinda like cheap insurance for the engine.

I did the first oil change at the dealership (had 3 free ones) at 3,000 miles. Then every 5,000 after that for the added piece of mind.
Thanks for the info Dave!

Easy Rob....LOL!
I am not telling anyone when to change their oil, just mentioned my preferences. Plus, I am curious what others think / do as well when it comes to their first oil change. Keep smiling :)

I did my first change to full synthetic at ~1250, then my second at ~3000, and two after that at ~5000. Blackstone suggested I go for 6500 based on the numbers on my oil report, so I did. My numbers still looked good at ~21,150 so I am pushing for 7500 on this next one. I will continue to push 1000 higher each time until the viscosity, fuel dilution, or TBN gives out first. I have an equal mix of stop and go, highway, empty, and hauling over 1000lbs. I do tow a ~5000 lb. boat on occasion in the summer months.

Only 987 threads? Hmmm, I must have counted wrong!!! Seriously a lot of oil threads and I did a search, however I did not see a thread on how many miles for the first oil change. If there is one, dang it, I missed it

Lots of sarcasm on this forum!
I did my first oil change at 3000 and since then every 5000. I just use whatever full synthetic is on sale at Advance Auto. 44k and no issues.
Thanks Landis!!!

I have basically followed the oil change indicator on my truck, changing it when the indicator was around 10% or so (probably 9,000 or so miles). I use a high quality synthetic oil and a Motorcraft filter. I've changed my oil 3 times now.
