We'll be chatting with our local dealer this week about trading in our Ingot XLT FX4. Their web trade estimate gave me a range of $34K - $37K. It will be interesting to see how that conversation goes, but I expect they plan to take in more bucks than they're giving out. I hate wheeler dealers.
What would you trade for? Another Ranger? Or has something else appealed to you?
Just curious.

Hi Chris. We no longer need a vehicle to tow behind a motorhome, so no need for a Ranger and those capabilities. I'll let the wife pick; she likes the Edges.
We had a 2012 Edge until last year. Solid vehicle for sure. Very comfortable and reasonably fuel efficient (26+ mpg).
Only complaint I had was the way the door armrests were engineered. They were awkward for me. Hopefully they have re-engineered that now.
Good luck on your new purchase!

It's no different than the housing market right now, and it really only affects you if you're young, new, and just trying to get into the market on either. If you trade in, and buy new, (and finance it) your payments will be roughly the same. It's like a house. Unless you're exiting the market, you're not making money selling your highly-valued house because you're gonna pay the same on the new one, if it's the same size/style. It really doesn't cost you or I any more due to trade-in values. I got offered 41k for my 2020 Lariat/FX4 as a trade-in. It's paid off, so I'm gonna run the wheels off it and save the cash. My next purchase will be a Lightning, Electric Ranger (if they make it), or Mach-E.

It's definitely not a buyer's market at all but that said, I'm hoping to somewhat capitalize on the trade in of my F-150 here today. Everywhere I've checked, average trade in value is already more than what I initially financed the truck on, which means once it's cleaned up further by the dealer, they'll turn it around sell it for more than what it was new in 2018! Crazy is an understatement.

Yeah, if you have 2 vehicles, selling one now is definitely worth it. I sold my 2020 Mustang GT for 7.5k over what I paid for it. MSRP was 47k, Covid sold it for 40k @ 0% in April 2020 when everyone thought the world was ending. Paid it off 3 months later, and then prices started going up. Sold it in April 2022 for 47.5k to a dealership. Could have got 50k private party. Deducting gas, insurance, and registration, I made probably 3k. I only sold it because I didn't drive it enough. Dealership was asking 53k before they sold it for who-knows-what.

KBB says my 19 Fully Loaded Ranger is worth 40-42K. I am a returning customer and my new 2022 F150 Lariat crewcab is due production next week so I dropped into my (S)tealer to see what the Desk if planning to give me for my 10K mile XLT with technology 4x4 sport packaged GPS perfect ranger. Bypassed my salesperson as I have a relationship with the Desk Manager. $38K is my tradein number. They ONLY look at KBB for a suggestion. THEY use how many Rangers are for sale in a 500 mil radious and use that to come to a price. 38 means 41600 to me as no tax is paid on the 38K trade in in. *In real terms at $38 I drove the truck FREE less insurance and gas for nearly 3 years and have to pony up the difference for the 22 Leather 4x4 crewcab Lariat. Prolly my last ever truck so I went big with the V8 also. :) :)

This is reason why I will prob hold on to Ranger longer. It's paid for and averaging 25mpg but wanted something more practical for long daily work commuting. Ranger is only 2wd SCAB and KBB private party sale lists value is higher than what I paid brand new. I see Honda dealers in this area are asking crazy prices at 7k over msrp. So if I purchased new Civic at today's market price the Ranger & Civic are about the same dollar amount. Just seems to me that Ranger has more value in terms of overall capabilities. Only real negative on keeping Ranger for computing is the fuel consumption difference (Ranger = 25mpg / Civic = 43mpg)

KBB says mine is worth $31,400 trade-in, $35k private party. The original MSRP was ~$33,500, and my out-the-door price was under $30k including the value of my trade-in 2.5 years and 20k miles ago. Perusing Cars.com seems to confirm the validity of this valuation; I found almost the exact same truck, nearly identical mileage, listed for $34,500.

I decided to check just for shiz and giggles. My 2019 Lariat MSRP was around $42k. Current private party value with ~40k miles is $39k. Of course, that doesn't include the upgrades such as my swing case and tailgate damper. The damper alone adds dozens of dollars.

Yes, that sales tax credit I think is a real boon to the dealers. Having said that, you might think about getting a second opinion from the folks at Driveway dot com. I was astounded at what they were offering me for our Jeep. It might be quite a few thousand more than the trade-in including the sales tax credit. Pretty painless process as well.

Driveway came in @ 39,777 cash. Still short of the 41,914 after taxes trading into dealer here in WA state. I have NO negotiating power as they would make more $$ if I walked from the deal for the new 22 F150 Lariat I ordered exactly as I wanted under an employee discount plan.
