I’ll be doing absolutely nothing with my Ranger today. Taking advantage of the time to prep, primer, paint, and paper the powder room. Man, I hate painting tiny spaces.

Truck? I came from an F-150, downsizing due to gas. The Ranger doesn't even compare. Biggest gripe is the radio comes on automatically. If I go to warm up the car, or just prefer to enjoy the silence, AM Radio (static) comes on automatically. Who thought that was a good idea? So, I have to remember to turn the radio on, then kill the volume because the volume button has no stop, when I warm up the car. I do that manually because the phone app which is supposed to remote start the truck is so unreliable, it's not worth the time screwing with it. The truck is 20 feet from my door, and over a 5G connection, it works about half the time. The app says the vehicle started, but reality shows otherwise. I can't turn off the windshield wipers once they are on. The stalk (stalks... really?) is once inch behind the steering wheel which means anyone with hands larger than my 10 year old son will accidentally trigger the worst wipe control system I have ever seen. I created a separate post about this.

Things I do like: Better gas mileage than an F-150 (obviously). Much easier to park than a full-sized vehicle. Despite being a lousy 4cyl, it moves. I'm not sure if its producing 200 or 270 horse, but I do have passing power to escape those that must drive 55 in the passing lane. Sorry to rant.
Yeah, i know what you mean!
My last full size was an f250!!
This truck has no power, useless bed, sits wayyyy to low, tiny tires, tiny inside,
What was i thinking buying a ranger, i was never told anything about the truck or even saw it.
I agree. I miss my f250. Then i could park outside the garage again and have a big truck for no reason

This was actually a couple Sundays ago, (March 13th) but the Ranger got to leave the garage and go to the hardware store.

We had some high winds and a tree took out power lines about a mile away. After being without power for 8 hours, it's back on for about ten minutes because a neighbor's tree across the street comes down, takes out the power lines, takes out our mailbox, and blocks out driveway. It was the very top of the tree blocking our driveway, it missed the gate by roughly 8 feet. The still live power lines were pinned the to the ground by the tree and were buzzing/burning the grass next to the driveway.

It eventually resulted in this big fireball until the transformer popped that lever off. That was kinda cool to watch, but this left us without power for another 7 hours, lol.

The neighbor and I dealt with the aftermath using our chainsaws the next afternoon, after I put up the new mailbox/post.

I live in the woods and was happy nothing came down on our houses.

Yeah, my Ranger exploded on its very first day of ownership. Dang Frodz!!!! Almost three years on, and we still don't know if it was the transmission, heater box, catch can, Sync3, Auto-Stop function, whatever. The '1-800-IwillMAKEyouRICH' billboard attorneys refuse to return my calls.

Went to a bigger city for a movie.

While doing the trip I noticed an annoyance on the gearbox logic. Coming from manual gear box history I've kind of used to a logic that "press gas pedal down = go" which pretty much holds true for the other automatic (or no-gearbox at all) cars I've been driving here in Europe. For this truck the "press gas pedal down" seems to equal to "hey, let me look what we have available at the gearbox and come back to you in a moment" and the answer arrives when the need for the situation has already passed. And then comes the awkward "ok ok.. let' me cancel that reservation" moment. Only thing accomplished in those 10 seconds is loss of few mph and hell of engine rewwing and up to 6 gear changes.

On manual setting it seems to work fine for city driving.

I've found the 10R80 in my Ranger to be a beautiful piece of work so far. Haven't towed anything beyond a motorcycle/ATV trailer to date. I often rock the switch on the handle knob while in 'D' to see the position indicator in the RH display of my Lariat (wishing it were larger).

I will use 'S' mode on rare occasions just because its there, along with the manual shift function. Ranger always seems to know which gear to be in by some magical electronic hocus pocus - we marvel at how well Ranger drives overall. Yes, our Ranger has the FP Ecoboost Performance Tune installed.

Before the tune was installed (using 93 E0), we noticed the 10R80 was 'less busy' that it had been when running 90 E0 originally from delivery. Our Ranger powertrain exudes confidence every time we drive it. Now that we replaced the crappy OEM shocks....:)

I'd say the box is using adaptive logic for baseline tuning and works fine and dandy at the baseline setting. Take it out of its normal operation envelope and it's like fish out of water. E.g. A year and 10000 miles on open country roads and forest trails and then hit the city and it still thinks it's running at some pothole gorge at forest/field. The machine is trying to learn the driver.

The competitors seem to have that "this is the logic, period" which you learn to operate the machine.

And quite frankly, our brains computational capacity is about billion times more that of the gearbox.

I rarely drive 'off the road' to be sure. I will switch on 4WD and the locking differential at these times to remind Ranger that i's so equipped. My previous 2006 Ranger 4wd lost its 4wd function due to lack of use (same driving venues as now). Dealer wanted to replace the transfer case. The shop I use rebuilt the shift case actuation motor for $50 and advised to use it at least once a month to remind Ranger it was so equipped. Traded the 2006 at 41k miles on my current 2019 Lariat.
