How many people have over 100k on one of these trucks with a gas 2.3L & 10speed probably not many. The problems down the road are unknown. In the past other brands I’ve worked on with DI have tons of issues, not trolling but I’ve never become a fanboy of any product just because I drive it or own it. If the truck proves me wrong I sure hope so as I bought it outright and was hoping to get a solid 5yrs out of it.
LOTS of them over 100K in other platforms, I.E.... The 2.3L has 7 Years in the Mustang with subsequent
development, The 10R80 has 6Years in production with subsequent development.

I spent 40+ years driving manual transmissions due to a lack of confidence in automatics, this is the first one in which I had sufficient confidence to spend my money on, not to mention its clearly improved operation... Love It!

I have found, over the years, that the most unreliable part of any vehicle, which causes by far the most damage and trouble... Is the "nut behind the wheel":giggle:

Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you!:like:

I recall reading the original story. Now, we need a cost effective alternative builder here in North America.

A bit 'off topic', but there's a shop in Colorado that converts Pontiac GXPs into Holden models - interesting. https://lefthandutes.com/

That's unreal, I love it! LHD holden utes! Sadly up until GM left Australia and the RHD market, you could have bought these up as cheap as chips, like every second driveway has one, now that no more are being made, having a good one in your shed is better investment than money in the bank. We used to build RHD utes here for New Zealand, South Africa, Oceania, and even Japan and now all gone to sh.t due to corporate greed and poor local management.

The ones with the cast iron 3.8 V6 push rod supercharged/ turbo motors were the best versions, lighter than the 5.0 V8, and scary fast, and a much tougher more durable engine than the all alloy 3.4 OHC V6 POS engine that replaced it. The 3.8 was arguably one of the best engines GM or for that matter anyone, ever made and I'm not even a GM fan.

Floyd! You are certainly correct on this one. I religiously change my oil at 4,000 miles! I don't care what the factory says and/or oil manufacturers say about their synthetics. When you run 4 to 5 pounds greater boost than the factory spec, it equates to more bypass into the crank case. Catch cans notwithstanding, we all know what that means!

EVERY turbo car, has more blow by that a naturally aspirated one, something we should all know, including Ford. The "real" question remains, however; does high mileage oil changes, increase Ford's warranty service? Apparently not, as their Mustang Performance Eco-Boost has the same oil change interval.

When Ford pays for my vehicles, they can choose the oil change intervals.
Once payed for.....its mine.
5000 miles is my comfort zone.
Generalities are always false.
This engine was designed as a turbo which includes specific fuel management EGR, and PCV.
These things run clean but 5000 Miles or once a year is just right for my needs.

Either build up the 2.3 or get a different truck.

The 23’ platform is a 3.0 V/6 ….wonder if it would fit ?
The Explorer chassis accepts the 3.0L twin turbo. The Coyote would just be more FUN imo.....kinda like the 392 SRT motor in the Durango. Never mind the Durango Hellcat.

Of course there are.

But most individuals don't worry about that. The epa isn't knocking on anybodies door to make sure their terminator swapped into an early 80's Fox body has a smog pump. Yet.
With the way some people are "Rolling coal" on others expect it sooner rather than later.

Personally I don't like smelling my exhaust then again i am old enough to remember smog across every single city in the USA. No one ever talks about how much clearer the air has been in the last 30 years.

im not bashing you directly, but its pretty pathetic for people to worry about their car lasting less than a Chinese made television.
ever seen a car not last 5 years?

You have heard of Nissan's right?

Rolling coal is pretty much dead nowadays. Even the lunk bro truck drivers figured out the damage they were doing years ago. Damage to their "rep," not the environment.

They're pretty much to blame for the EPAs current crackdown on the larger tuning companies.

I don't know about where you live. But the Denver Metro has gone to utter shit as far as pollution goes over the last 30 years.

If you wanna fix the environment a big, three letter government bureaucracy is not the way to do it.

Also, I've seen built LSs and Terminators without cats run cleaner than 10-15 year old Camry's that can still pass at the emissions testing place. Just because a vehicle has EPA mandated equipment that doesn't make it "clean."

They are still going strong down in Houston. As far as Diesels go here there is nothing for particulate emissions so they can dump as much soot as they want.

I'd buy a Frontier if I wanted to drive around in something that ugly looking.
I was driving Frontiers for nearly 20 years. Most recently, a 2017 Pro 4X. I was waiting for the updated ride from Nissan...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting and then...

I'm getting a Ranger!

But seriously, I don't think they are that bad. I was just shocked by the jump in price. And while I feel they did enough to (mostly) justify it, I just flt that dollar for dollar, the Ranger was the better deal. And, it didn't hurt that it does look quite a bit better.
