I switched to the iPhone for the added security an privacy. Not that I know enough to explain it but I do not trust the googles so anything I can do to avoid them is fine with me.

I'd first ask what software you're on? Version 15.3.1 is out, and I don't have the issue you're having. I am aware some of the commands don't work as expected, unless CarPlay is activated. And some of that specific issue, is fixed in the latest version of Sync.

There is one thing for certain. The need for constant upgrading is evidence that companies are doing their best to increase cybersecurity as needed, to combat the thieves.
Actually, the last 2 upgrades were hosing Sync. This last one sort of fixed the handshake but still glitchy. A year ago when I got the truck the two worked seamlessly together. It’s on Apple and their updates and not Sync as far as I can tell

For schits and giggles, controlling Sync radio with Siri on my apple watch 7, works fine.

Is it though?

I watched in the early 2000s as dudes with foresight created their own jobs and in fact an entire industry. I'm talking about "safety engineers."

I'm of the opinion that most updates are simply overpaid software engineers trying to justify their existance. One out of 7 updates to an app or phone actually includes some increased usability. Most of the time it's a cosmetic tweak, moving layouts around, or actually removes some usability.

How many times have updated something to find, "ohh, they took that function away, crap?"

I don't write software for anyone but myself these days. Nonetheless, I have great appreciation of the tedium these guys and gals go through to (mostly) satisfy the rest of us. On the other side of the equation, are the nut cases whose whole existence, is prying into the affairs of others.

I might buy the fed trying to infiltrate the enemy, as they're (attempting) doing it to us. But the fact remains, most of the hacking isn't governmentally driven. It is the closet nerd (a cross between the The Nerd's Booger, and Porky's PeeWee), whose whole existence, is messing with the intelligentsia.

Rather than chastise the corporate-fed programmers, we need to remember, they're the only thing between us, and the Wendy's of the world.!

You essentially called him a luddite just because he doesn't use Apple. There are many other phone options out there that don't require getting sucked into apples stupid ecosystem.

I worked for a certain fruit company for several years. Managed User Acceptance Testing across a small and specific set of apps. The scripts we ran and the regression testing were mind-numbing. The bugs were one thing. Then add in the changes made because of user feedback, ergonomics, and accessibility requests. Ugh! There is plenty of work to go around without making changes for the sake of change. I can see why people would think that way though.

I should introduce you to the Apple hacking club! These guys look for vulnerability’s in IPhone software to jailbreak them or “hack” to do what they like with them. It’s a cat and mouse game with Apple. Some of these hackers have been paid a few million to reveal the flaw they used. Hence another update to patch it.

Confession: I use CarPlay and voice commands. A lot. Plugged in the phone, pushed the voice button, and immediately got this message: Siri requires an internet connection. Seems their latest security update enables Siri to function without an internet connection, keeping your info in your device. That's good. However, the software that makes that happen is not compatible with chip #11 (iPhone X, for instance) and requires chip #12 or newer. So, the voice command that worked just fine before, is now disabled. Before you run out and buy a new phone, the update can be deleted: settings/general/storage/iphone update. It may be a temporary fix, but for now it works. Keeping my iPhone X - and my money. :curse:
And people try to tell me Apple makes better phones.......

I have an iPhone because that’s what my work gives me and I have an IPad because, well, I have an IPhone :). I am not a big phone person and I am a minimalist user compared to many of you guys, so I ask this from ignorance on the topic, but how is the Apple “ecosystem” different from the Android “ecosystem”.
The Apple ecosystem requires that all apps and accessories be Apple approved and in some cases accessories are only available from Apple. Android is an open system where as just about anyone can make apps and accessories for Android. I've even seen head units that are Android based that will run most Android apps, but I've never seen a head unit that is Apple IOS based as Apple will not allow it.
The plus side with Apple allowing only Apple apps is the increased security.

I'm no tech junkie or software engineer or anything like that, I just like that my iPhone just..works, like all the time. It opens any video, it opens ANY attachment that comes in, it just works. I don't really give a shit that I'm not able to create my own apps or whatever on account of..I can't do that. Over the years every time a buddy tried to show me something on his "android" phone (no idea what phone it was, I'm sure the $1500 ones work just fine) they would have trouble loading or playing whatever it was. I would then look it up on my iPhone and it would just..play.

Amazon, Apple, Google/Android, they all use against you what they learn spying on you.
The only thing any of them care about is money and power.

Agreed. My iphone and iPad are two pieces of hardware in my life that I pretty much never have an issue with. If the Apple “ecosystem” is responsible for that then I’m all for it.
