So we will have Ford Blue, Ford-e and Ford Pro... And Lincoln... what?
  • Will the ICE Lincolns fall under "Blue", and the electrics under "-e"? how about limos and hearses: "Pro?"
  • Who gets hybrids and PHEVs?
  • Will a dealer be able to franchise more than one of the three divisions and operate them under the same roof?
  • Do small rental fleets buy from Pro?
  • Is the train station going to be the -e HQ?
  • Will Detroit's NFL team be renamed the Li-Ions?
  • Is hydrogen dead? Elvis? Hoffa?

Sadly Tom at Chapman has been put in a box by Ford just like my dealer Granger. When Ford changed the allocation formula to make the mega dealers that charge stupid high ADMs happy, that put my 10/04/20 reservation at a possible '24 build date if I'm lucky. I'm thinking if I don't hear some good news about this fiasco they call Bronco by the time the '23 Ranger order banks open, I'll order a new Crew Cab. I'm going to offer my Bronco to Granger, because they have been so good at being transparent during this Ford crap. The bloom has fallen off the Bronco rose for me, and I'm not even excited about it anymore. Damnit..........:)
Sounds like a decent dealer there.
No way I would put up with that crap from Ford pushing out your build by 4 years. Plenty if other vehicles to spend that money on if foes can’t deliver. Tell them to stick that order where the Sun don’t shine.

Thanks brother, there are other options on the table for sure. If Stellantis gets the new Dakota out in '23 that will be one I will look at also. I know the global chip problem, and the supply chain sux now. But, Ford has done some things that is the complete opposite than what they started with when many of us reserved. That's on Ford, and that's what has really upset the apple cart.

I don't wish to sound like a nay-sayer, but I'm just waiting for the energy crunch to hit. The US is already heading for a shortage of electrical power. Even if the fed green lighted new power plants (atomic or natural gas), it would take 20 plus years to get one built. In the mean time, what will all of the electric vehicle drivers be doing with their vehicles?
We have a looming energy crisis in a magnitude almost no one appreciates. Our US grid is WEAK. Texas used to have the best grid in America. Look what happened when they didn't maintain it. Beyond that, we can't generate enough power. Every year our appliances and electronics (new ones) are more efficient than the year prior. There's an unwritten rule that new appliances consume about half as much electricity as appliances 10 years old. Yet despite becoming more efficient, we are using more electricity than ever. We just keep buying more electrical stuff.

Then there is the fuel. We keep over regulating coal, shutting off line the nuke plants, and killing off pipelines to deliver the natural gas. Pretty soon your only power source in the US is going to be two monkeys in a giant hamster wheel that get to take a break and watch a monkey porno every time they generate a 100 kilowatts. Good news is the grid will be able to handle that.

Now look at the mess we have created in the Middle East and he mess Russia has made of petroleum in Europe. Domestically it costs us about 80 to 85 dollars a barrel to produce. We want cheap oil - that comes from other countries. We don't want the pollution from oil production so we buy it from other countries and leave the pollution there and take the oil. Now you are going to have very expensive oil with pollution here.

There is a lot we can do to fix this but some of it takes $$ we aren't willing to spend and time we aren't willing to wait for.

You think gas is expensive wait till you get all elc. You people in CA are already get enormous elc bills. When the whole family plugs their trucks into the house the meter will overheat. And if one of them blows up then the whole house and the neighbors will blow. Fire departments cant throw water on these battery fires they just watch till they burn to the ground.

Clearly the US is hindered by lack of a consistent, cohesive energy policy, it changes largely based on what political entity holds power. Over time the ICE will be replaced by more efficient less polluting electric cars, the transition is/will be facilitated by gov subsidies and increasingly tighter legal controls on gas powered autos and the energy grid problems will be addressed, pretty common angst/backlash involved with transitional technologies.

Well it took Henry Ford and others about 50 years to get the country used to using/buying gas powered automobiles. Then about another 50 years to depend on them. So if history is any indicator...we should all be driving electric by 2050ish?? Granted, there were less political obstacles to deal with as well back then.

However long such a transition takes - people won't buy into unrealistic plans (like the green new deal), but in the time you mention regards accepting/depending the automobile - the pace of technological change and acceptance has increased tremendously - dependence on cell phones, the internet, television, microwave ovens, etc is now commonplace and occurred in a relatively shorter time span.

IMO it's a big challenge for auto companies to deal with the ever changing legislation around autos - one admin selects arguably unrealistic efficiency standards, then another modifies them, one state decides on it's own regulations and so on. Ford is another company that has announced big commitments to EV, yet they still have to keep sales number up for ICE vehicles and hope the future political powers support EV vehicles and all that has to happen for them to succeed.

Here is a bit more to think on.

The largest drawback to electric vehicles, is the time it takes to recharge them. Even super fast charging systems often take about an hour, and even then, you only get about 80% of max. You only get that on a brand new battery! The longer the vehicle's range, the worse the situation gets!

The faster you charge, the more current you will draw, and the lower overall efficiency becomes. In the mean time, the battery gets even hotter, which limits the charging rate. It is almost a Pandora box of mutually exclusives.

Unless some magical genus (or genie) is able to rewrite the laws of energy conservation, the state of the art with respect to battery power capacities, is nearing its ionic limitations.

All of the things mentioned here, and previously, are being overlooked, in the feverish drive towards a Brand New Green World! Where the he'll is Rachel Carlson when you need her more than ever?!

Well in the US we track statistics on daily commutes (link below) the majority are shorter distances - as in less than 25 miles and many are commutes to jobs in urban area - where a car is parked for the duration of the day, progressive urban areas and employers are providing free charging stations, so for many owners recharge time is not a huge issue . EV not for everyone but most EV and hybrid owners are happy with the overall savings - which will be even more significant with rising fossil fuel energy costs .

This is an area where something really needs to be done. The horror stories told by folks that went to pick up their Broncos only to have a stupid high ADM added to the sticker would curl your hair. A member over on the B6g froum just went to his dealer (Golf Mill Ford in Illnois) to pick up his Bronco. Even though he had a signed price agreement the dealer still added a 5K ADM saying that is the way others are selling Broncos. In the end they refused to sell him his Bronco. Other have gone in to find their Broncos price have risen up to 100% of the MSRP. Of course Ford will tell you there is nothing they can do about this while giving you lip service that they will dicipline these dealers by withholding allocations. That hasn't happened yet. These dealers along with Ford is killing Fords reputation. Something certainly needs to change, and quickly.

Being a Bronco reservation holder I could go on, and on about how bad Ford has screwed up the Bronco launch. And, it didn't have to be that way. Here's a good example of a shitty Ford dealer.

I've had a chance to check out a co-workers new 2022 Badlands Bronco ($55K+) pretty thoroughly.....actually not that impressed..:rockon:
