I'm bringing this over to a new thread as it probably got lost in my other thread.

Two dealerships' managers will not allow my program my genuine keyless keypads unless they are installed on the vehicle. I only got to talk to the clerk at the first place where I usually take my Ranger, but she put me on hold and checked with the manager. Came back on and said, Nope won't program it unless it's on the vehicle.

Called another Ford dealer service department, same thing... clerk says no they cannot program it unless stuck on vehicle. I explain to this one too that there is no wiring, it's battery operated, just needs to be programmed to my truck... I don't see the problem as long as truck is present, the 2 key fobs and that it is a genuine Ford Ranger w/auto start keyless keypad! I mean, I don't expect them to do it for free!

So an update... the first dealership's manager just called me back. Said it's right in the Ford instructions that the keypad has to be installed on the truck during programing, something about the radio wave length only travels so far. I said, so just lay it against the windshield while you're programming it! Nope, has to be stuck on the vehicle. I told him this is ridiculous!

I agree it sounds ridiculous! If you can't find one to do it without installing it just get some 3m tape and reinstall it once you're home. It's easy to do and just use either fishing line or dental floss and some spray wax or speed detailer for lube. Go slow and it'll come right off and re-wax the area. Stinks to do this but it's an easy work around.

What do you mean program it? Are you referring to changing the numbers to open the door? You can change those your self.

No, not just changing the numbers. It's brand new, never been on the vehicle. Needs programming.

Val, try to find another dealer.. My local dealer did it with the keypad sitting on the driver seat and I installed it later at home.

I don't understand why you don't just let them install it where you want it and be done with it.
I'm obviously missing something here. What is it I'm missing?

I guess it's just the point of it all! That's probably what's going to end up happening though. I really wanted to make sure it was working properly before stuck on my truck.

I think @RANGER PRIDE is probably right.
It's a CYA thing for them and if it were me I wouldn't program it til it was on your truck, too.
Put it where you like it best (within their allowed parameters) and let them deal with getting it to work right.

That’s where I want to relocate mine to. That’s where it was on my 2019 F150. Were you able to somehow rotate the number pads so they are not sideways?

I know you want to install it somewhere inconspicuous.

Why not just stick it where you want before the "install?"

And if they don't get it to work after it's already on, it will be pried off and they'll say I have a faulty unit. That's why I rather see it work before sticking on my truck.

I have not done this since 2011 but at that time, I added my own keypad, I don't think they've changed much?? Mine came with instructions on how to pair it with your vehicle. A quick internet search shows how to do it as well. https://faroutride.com/ford-keyless/
