Hi all - I'd like some advice from the hive mind on ordering a 2022 Ranger Tremor. I have some financial stars that will align at the end of May so at that time I'll have a bunch of cash on hand. I'd love for a factory-ordered Ranger Tremor comes in at that time or later. I am worried that with ongoing chip shortages and shut down of factory lines that if I wait too long to order I'll be bumped to 2023.

If it comes in before the end of May - not the end of the world but I'd need to get a loan until cash comes in. Not worried about loan fees but would rather not have a hit to my credit report.

If it comes in 2023 - this won't work for me.

If I put in an order now, would it likely come no sooner than the end of May? Should I wait a month? At what point do I risk getting my order bumped?

Thanks all!

I'd place the order now. IIRC someone just posted they placed their order last week and was quoted a July date. Even if it comes in at the beginning of May the dealer should hold it for a week or two, maybe longer if you have done business with them before. With the chip and other parts shortages I wouldn't wait to long as it could possibly get bumped into a 2023.

I placed my 2019 order 2/15, received 5/5

I think the ordering/timing situation was a bit different in 2019?

I ordered a Maverick that never started down the factory line after a few months due to production issues. Ended up finding my ranger on a lot and paying under sticker. I think I am happier with the extra capability for about the same price I was going to pay. Anyway.......

Order now. They don't ask for money down and you can cancel if your plan falls apart. It will just give that dealer another truck on the lot to mark up like crazy.

Your guess is as good as anyone's. Job 1 for the 2022 MY was 12/14/21, so it will depend on how many orders get backlogged before they shut the unscheduled order bank down, and kick everything to 2023MY.
The conventional wisdom is the chip shortage will last into 2Q 2023. add to that some plants partially or totally shut down sporadically for lack of parts, or in one case I read about, a part for a machine had to be back ordered because that supplier couldn't make the repair part due to lack of raw material.

The short version is order it tomorrow, and don't worry about a temporary hit to your credit score if need be. A retail customer order takes precedent over all dealer stock orders, unless if the plant is put on war footing.

See your friendly neighborhood Ford dealer, and keep an eye on the Ukraine.

Of course it was but that was just to give an idea, which is why I included the year

We had our own share of first year production delays, factory ramp up, supplier parts issues, shipping issues - now it is covid and chip shortages, etc. Same mixed bag

Last year, I ordered mine at the end of January and it delivered in mid-may same truck..

The same supply chain based fears were being spouted at that time.

I'd stick with your order. If you get bumped call it fate and just respond IF that happens.

In Jan 2021, My deaker held my ordered truck for ~2 weeks until I was in the area to pick it up. Should not be an issue for them to hold it, if it arrives early.

If you have lots of cash in hand in may, youll have lots of cash in 2023 as well. Not sure what the issue is. No experation date with cash. If its delayed, put it in the bank. Will be there plus .2% intetest.

I think bottom line, in olden times, it took three months to receive a custom order. I think you will be ok if you order now, and take your chances with what's out there. You might find something around the time your ready if your order isn't in. I found a tremor under msrp about two weeks ago and I watched the market for about a year.

PS
I Custom ordered a 2017 Explorer Sport in June 2017 and had it by October 2017.

True. We're RVers and are moving from a 5th wheel (sold) that we towed with a Ram 2500 (selling soon) to a Class A motorhome we're picking up in the fall. Looking at the Ranger Tremor because it is flat-towable and 1.5 tons lighter than the RAM. Would like the vehicle in time for our yearly winter trip at the end of December. We'd be without a towed vehicle if we waited until 2023.

Looks like there's very little risk of the Tremor coming in before I want it to, and even if it does it's not that big a deal (as others have pointed out).

Ah, so i misread. Need for limit on time before trip. That makes sense.
And fx4 trim will get you most of what a tremor offers. Just an fyi

2019 is no way a equal comparison to what's going on currently, we should only be so fortunate to have '19 as current situation.
And to the OP 'cloo' what are you ordering a Screw or Scab? Screws have a better build rate. FYI.
Best to you and spec'ing your order.
