Get more options than you think you need because all too often there are owners on here wanting to add options they thought they didn’t need at the time of purchase.

Hey, Chad, welcome to the forum. My only experience is with the 2019 Lariat, and some things may have changed since then (probably for the worse), but for me the decisive differences are the B&O sound (which you listed) and the fob that locks and unlocks doors, starts the truck from a distance, etc. For me, the sound system alone is worth moving up to the Lariat, and the fob is a huge convenience, especially in bad weather. So, my advice is, if the budget permits (or the wife allows), do it!
So the XLT does NOT have a key fob that opens doors and starts the truck even if it has remote start?? That seems awful odd....

It sounds like I wouldn't get the BO sound system anyway since I'm really not needing a crew cab and would prefer more bed space. So thats kinda a bummer. I wonder if a Lariat key fob with the remote start button can be programed to be used with a XLT.

XLT 302A package definitely does NOT include heated mirrors. A huge mistake on Ford's part in my opinion.
Yes I totally agree... I guess I will have to call someone at Ford to clarify things because it seems the build guide and the online build doesn't match. That ix expanded on by sales people at 2 different dealerships not knowing at all what is what and referred to the online build for what options are available.

I do agree. The number one thing that I do not like with the Lariat is the leather seats. I wonder what it would cost to swap out the fabric.....

.....
The XLT, at least in the 302A package, DOES have a remote start key fob. I use it all the time and rarely use the Fordpass app to remote start.

Press the lock button then the start button 2x.

It does require you to push a button to unlock the doors, they don't automatically unlock when you get within range of the truck.

The XLT key fobs have remote unlock and lock, you have to push the button to unlock or lock them, whereas the Lariat you leave the fob in your pocket & just put your hand on the door handle and they unlock.

You can get the B&O system in supercabs. I've driven an FX4 Lariat supercab that has it. It's actually still on the lot the last I looked at their website. It's a REALLY nice truck and I was tempted but I thought a crew cab would serve me better. It's quite a bit cheaper than my XLT Tremor was too.

I think the key fob reference was that the xlt doesn't offer the proximity unlock and push button start. It does have the button to lock and unlock and I believe remote start from the fob is an option. It can certainly be added via the perimeter plus alarm. As for the seats, it seems sear covers would remedy if you otherwise want the Lariat...?

Oook cool that makes more sense. It ouldnt be great to only have the ford pass as an option since I live in a rural area.

Yeah I could consider just a fabric seat cover. I need to go look at a lariat. The one I drove Friday was a XLT and they didnt have a Lariat available to look over the dash. The sales person was also rushing so we only did maybe a 2 mile drive. Kinda lame.

Does anyone experience wind noise (like a whistling) on highways? I read that somewhere.... Something with the mirror designs I think?

Anyone with a crew cab wish they went with a super? Or vic versa? I am leaning to a super for more bed space. Single dude here with no kids. Maybe a dog in the near future.
I have had both and prefer the crew cab. My 85 pound dog prefers the crew cab too. It is easier for him to get in and out plus he has a nice flat bench seat to lay on. I am willing to give up the 6 foot bed for this. Plus human passengers appreciate the extra room in the crew cab back seat.

I don't think that's accurate. Mine are not heated mirrors, and I have XLT 302A. I think others on the forums have said the same thing, but could be wrong. Maybe it might have been at some point, but changed?
My 2020 XLT FX4 has heated seats, remote start, etc, but no heated mirrors. This is a big complaint I have with ALL auto manufacturers. It is 2022 and all vehicles should come with heated side mirrors standard.

I also think that a heated steering wheel should be part of the package with heated seats. Yes my Jeeps have spoiled me for this.

I used to feel the same way until I wound up with a vehicle with leather seats. I won't buy a new vehicle without leather now. It looks better, wears better and is easier to clean. I especially like the Miko Suede inserts in my Lariat Tremor, they feel very upscale and are super easy to clean after the dog has gotten in with muddy feet.

I find the fabric Ford has been using on its non leather interiors for the past 10 years to look like something that belongs on patio furniture.

Hey all - New here. I posted an introductory post but was referred to this forum from another place when asking Ranger questions. So glad because theres a bunch of great info here! For the last 6 months I have been debating a new truck. A 90 Ranger was my first vehicle - sure was a great truck. Anywhoo, I am trying to better understand the true differences between XLT and Lariat. Every time I have been to a dealer (only 2 within an hours drive) they never have both available to look at side by side. Only one or the other. Not surprisingly no sales person was able to answer my 'what are the differences' question.

So below I have outlined the differences that I know of based on Ford, pics, and various reviews. These are things that are on the Lariat, and not on the XLT (both fully optioned). If there is anything else - please by all means let me know. It's only about a 5K difference between the two so having a tough time deciding which way to go....
Lariat things
  • LED lights
  • Darker plastics interior (not the shiny silver trim)
  • Leather seats (I do not like leather, would swap for fabric in the future)
  • rain sensing wipers
  • B&O Sound system
  • dual productivity screens in instrument cluster

All others aside - what pro/con does the lariat version instrument cluster offer?
Turn signals in mirrors, adaptive cruise control (may be an option on other trims).

I went with the 302 package because the 2021 Ranger brochure said heated mirrors are part of the package. Obviously, the brochure is wrong. I might look at adding the heat later.

THe Lariat key fob has (2) way comms with the truck to let you know whether it started, there is a small LED on the top of the fob green-started red-failed.
I think that applies to all the fobs with remote start.

I don't think the status is accurate at the extremes of range though as I can start mine from my office in my basement and sometimes get the red LED, but when I go out to the truck it has always started.

So the truck got the start command but the reply didn't make it.

2021 order guide XLT 302a shows “ Power folding side view mirrors with power glass”

2022 order guide XLT 302a shows “ Power mirrors w/heated glass”

Seeing that no one has taken delivery on a 2022 yet (that I’ve heard of) we’ll have to wait to see what it really is.
I have the XLT 302a on order for February build so I am curious to say the least.
So those of you who have the 2021 XLT 302a what mirrors do you actually have?

I like our Lariat, I have never had cloth seats in a vehicle, not any of the vehicles I have owned throughout my years have had cloth seats, and none of them have ever cracked. I just like the way they look after they have been wiped down with Aurorall, nice and shiny!
