No wonder people are going into debt.... Trucks 40,50,60,75K depending on trims and function. Maybe I am just to frugal.... even my new Ranger at 35K MSRP(not paying that) is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased. I know its the norm but its eye-opening how expensive and how nice trucks can be! :p

It gets absurd when a vehicle costs more than a god damn house sometimes.

I try not to be jealous of other people, but when I see some driving denalies, king ranches, ect.. I kinda question their priorities in life.

When I ordered my ranger, Told the salesman I will not pay over $500 a month, the moment he said "what if" I said I will walk out right now. Over 35k for a truck? I rather invest that 35k into housing/rental.

Ok done with rambling.

I believe you answered your own question. Coming from the left coast, the land of high end cars and homes priced beyond the reach of the ordinary, its kinda a surprising revelation.
but trucks are just not popular here. There is a reason Ford sells a shit ton of them. I consider myself very fortunate for where I am with my job, my family etc... but I will tell you I am poor compared to a lot of people in CA.

A local contractor friend buys a new truck every third year. He does construction work and tree removal when the weather is good, and plows snow all winter. 3/4-ton, 4x4, regular cab, 8-foot bed, light color paint. He doesn’t care who makes it. I’ve seen him choose one brand over another to save $300. These people pay whatever it costs to run their businesses, and the cost is passed-on to their customers. They’re not going to quit buying trucks because the price gets too high. There are millions of them.

It’s all the stupid luxury crap they put in them and marketing has brainwashed people into thinking it’s ok to go into to debt up to their asses

Manufacturers make a killing off of what the truck cost to build vs the invoice. I worked for ford for a short time after retiring from the military and saw first hand the data.

I agree, just look at the things people on this forum want on their rangers heated steering wheel, cooled seats, sun roofs of all things and many more nickel and dime trinkets. That's on top of what they can already get. A lot of them will probably never see off road, tow anything or haul anything more than groceries.

I dream of a no-dealer future where there are no trim levels, you just pick a model, piecemeal customize it, and get it delivered from the factory. Tired of options I want being locked behind trims I don't want and paying extra for the human element I also don't want.

Led lighting and push button start are the only "fancy" features I want. Also, how are cruise control and power locks not standard in 2021?

Most of the F-150s I see out here (there are more full-size trucks than people) are leases, people buying above their means, or boomers that drained the last drops from our economy at my expense. :(

I would love to scoop up a 2018 F-150 on a lease expiration.... But everyone is buying them out because of the bonkers used market.

I bought a new F-150 Platinum in 2013. The thing had everything including the kitchen sink , and stickered at 46K. In 2015 Ford started raising the prices, and I thought there has to be a break point where folks won't by the F-150 because of the absurd prices. Man, was I ever wrong. Hell, a gussied up F-150 XL will cost more today than my Platinum of yesteryear. So basically, as long as people are buying them manufactureres will continue raising the price.

I think we are heading this way. As the auto industry shrinks due to the rising costs and the shift to EV more manufacturers will start offering more build to order options. I hate dealerships.

Yes the pick up is the most profitable vehicle always from all the brands . They love the chumps , us .
