I mean, that's exactly what they're designed and approved for, race/pit usage. I used one of these on a recent weekend off-roading trip. I filled it at the gas station a mile down from the trailhead and emptied it while I was at the campsite, so it was otherwise empty - a fine use for something like this.I'm not arguing with you but the whole race circuit uses these and they travel around the country with these for years now. Go to any MX race and these are all you'll see in the pits. I know some of the larger race teams carry their race fuel in large drums and pump them into these at the track but the smaller teams don't.
There's tons of things that you can do that aren't technically legal that you'll get away with. To each their own. I'm not chancing both DOT and EPA fines because I wanted to save a few dollars on gas cans though. As they say, insurance is cheap.
