I was installing the ditch light brackets, and just as I was taking off the hood retention nut my wife bounces into the garage and asked me a question. My multi-tasking skills must be slipping as I dropped the nut and it went down between the master cylinder and engine &*^%$#!!. I have a spare so I finished installing the lights as I didn't want to get side tracked again. Now I have the driver's side wheel and inner skirt off trying to find that stupid sucker. Looking in all of the critical places first, may have to continue tomorrow when I am not so pissed. Where is the Hulk when you need him, "Just pick it up, turn it over and shake it, never mind why"

Get a magnet wand and go fishin. It will appear at some point.
If you do this remove a battery cable. I dropped a header bolt installing headers on my 5.0 mustang an took the telescoping magnet an went fishing. POW! I hit the hot lead on the starter an it burned the rod in half.

I have a telescoping one with a light, just too tired and pissed to mess with it tonight.

That won’t happen on our trucks - we have a $200 fuse/breaker on the positive terminal - don’t ask me how I know. ?

When working at a shop, we used the air gun. Spray it all around, you can usually either hear it drop on the ground, or rattle around which helps you locate it.
That might work, I do have a big compressor and airgun.

If you have my luck it will land on a crossmember an never be seen again. I bought a 84 Mustang T top notch back car once that was off the road an stored in a barn for 2 hears. I'm crawling around underneath installing the powertrain an I find a 7/16's flex head rachet head wrench. Glad to know there's more than one of us in the world.

2 or 3 years from now you will hear an aggravating rattle coming from somewhere under the dash.
Upon investigating you will find that nut has migrated from the engine compartment to the interior.
It is just one of those unexplained phenomenon's that happen...

Well sir, that chit do happen. I'm a member of the club. I sold a 2007 GM plastic car with my 3/4 extension somehwere in the right fender well. The only way to get to it was to remove the tire, and the fender liner. Nope wasn't gonna do that. Took a trip to Wally World, and remedied the problem much easier. :)
