I plan to order one and have it painted Cyber Orange. IMO, it just makes the engine bay look "cleaner" and covers supposedly help protect components. Many modern cars have them for this reason. The Bronco engine bay looks like crap (in many opinions), like spaghetti under there. Some (me included) hope they make a aftermarket cover for the Bronco as well.

I'd challenge that and offer that covers are more for the ladies/girly men....making it look less intimidating when they check the oil. if you win at that game, they actually might check the oil when they add washer fluid.
esthetics far outweigh any benefit/loss for noise, heat and contaminants.
I have been an aircraft mechanic, truck and car mechanic, generator repairman (small engine repair) and rebuilt more than one engine in my garage, and I bought an engine cover, why, because the damn thing looks unfinished without it... and yes, I know how to check the oil.

The funny thing is…. Im almost positive most people are checking their oil incorrectly. The part where the manual says to let it sit for 15min before checking, im sure most arent waiting near that or even aware of it lol

Craig,

If you don't know, the cover is more of a foam material and not plastic. In another thread someone already went through a lot of trouble to paint his and it didn't turn out well. I'll see if I can find the post for you. Here

You may be correct, most likely are. Once the engine is at normal operating temp I normally wait about 30 minutes before checking. A habit from large displacement diesel engines, oil has further to go :)

Thanks....I will look into it. Maybe I can plastic dip it or something.....if not, just leave as is. I think it looks better with one.

I see things like this, and it brings out the engineer in me.

First, how does the water get into the spark plug recesses? If you drive through really deep puddles, and forge through deep ravines, I suspect you might get water down the tubes, so to speak. The truth is, if the COP units are properly installed (a bit of silicon grease helps), the chances are very slim you'll ever have an issue such as this. The most likely cause is washing your engine with a high-pressure washer, cover or no cover!

There is one issue engine covers can cause, and that's excessive under-hood temperatures. If engine covers had any benefits other than esthetics, you'd see race teams using them. The fact you don't speak volumes. Had my Ranger come with one, I would have removed it, for the aforementioned reason.

Sometimes, adding things just because they look good, can cause serious issues. A good example of this, are rim extenders, used to widen the stance (wheelbase width).

In the case cited, the engine cover might be innocuous, but if you have a tune or other performance upgrades, it is best to forget it!

I prepped, primed, painted with colour-matched 2-stage base for several coats, cleared several coats.
The thing clearly flexed and then shrank in one of the inside corners. Now I need to fill/bodywork my soft engine cover….
It did look great for that first week.

The proper term is tire pusher outerers, come on man get your terms straight.
A lot of fear surrounding wheel spacers but it’s entirely unfounded. “But if they ain’t torqued down correctly..” yes that’s also true about hundreds of other bolts on your truck.

Sounds like not painting it may be a better idea. Thanks
