All these cool old trucks reminded me:

Why is Bill Clinton a fan of both Monica Lewinski and F150s?

They're both a half-ton pickup ?

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week...

All this Packard talk made me want to read more about them; they started off as an ultra-luxury car that was $2950 at the same time Ford was $500.
in today's market, with Ford's Actual Transaction Prices (ATP) averaging north of $40,000, that would be in the $240,000 Range. They were magnificent cars in their heyday; early to late Thirties,
but after the war, they started moving down market into Kaiser and Hudson territory, and then further until the prestige of owning a Packard was finally meaningless and they merged with Studebaker. The last Packards were real Franken-cars; Studebaker Hawks badge engineered with poorly executed plastic nose pieces and tack-on quad headlights and fins.
1938 Brunn-Bodied Packard Twelve All Weather Touring Cabriolet. $8510, when a Ford Deluxe Club coupe started at $745:

Nice...I was hoping the name wouldn't show up !!!
Makes me wish I had a photo of my grandfather's F-150 ('81-ish). He loved Mack Trucks and my uncle bought him a Mack bulldog to put on the hood of that F-150. If I remember correctly, they bought a set of chrome wheels for it too. The truck was painted up in his company's colors - red with a white stripe down each side and the company logo (gold & black) on each door.

Man, I haven't thought about that truck in years. Wish I had it now.

Wow.

How can the Hawk look so good and that look so......wrong?

It's like someone took a photo of Kate Bekinsale and then "improved" it by adding in the features of Rosie O'Donnell.

Someone brought one to our annual Prescott Days Car Show one year. Very poor original fit for the Packard pieces. History repeats itself though: Cadillac probably never will fully regain its status from before they brought out the "lipstick-on-a-pig" Cimarron.
