Did you take a picture of your dash prior to restarting it? It is helpful. Saying the dash lit up like a christmas tree doesn't help much for troubleshooting.

No doubt some wind would be out of my sails too, but its mechanical, assembled mostly by people who are quite simply, people.
I've worked with mechanical things and people my whole life. If it wasn't for them, I would be unemployed
Dont set the bar too high and you can't get overly disappointed.
Hard not to set the bar high. Gave my son a 2004 Tacoma with 240k on it two years ago. Factory battery was replaced once, and replaced the alternator once. Other than that, just maintenenance, brakes, etc.

No, I didn’t. Just drive it to lunch. No lights on now. If it does it again, I will take some pictures.

Did you do anything to your ranger recently like remove your tire for any reason? If you did anything, retrace your steps and make sure everything was put back okay. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.
I havent done anything to it. Although, we had horrible rain the last two days here, and drive through a lot of rain covered roads. Possibility something may have got wet. Hopefully it doesn’t come back on.

Hope it's just a fluke. The other day my truck was dead. I parked by my buddies dock to help him prep his boat. I opened the passenger door an no dome light. Got in, no dome light. Turn the key an nothing, not a single light on the dash. Hit the power for a light bar that ran right off the battery an it was perfect. I open the hood to prep to hook up jumper cables....opened the door an the interior lights all came back an it started right up. The dash lights an display screen were blindingly bright.

There are so many systems an control modules on modern cars an trucks I think an occasional fluke is the new norm.

I have to drive mine about 40 miles before the scan gauge shows the voltage from 14.2 to around 13.1 then it will vary between 12.5-13.1. I’m guessing the bms is just maintaining the charge it when the voltage is showing 12.5-13.1.

2004 was a different era for vehicles, quality etc. It is nearly 20yrs ago. Lots changed since.
Our truck isn't 100% built in the US of A. That means the fancy electron flowing parts likely come from the other side of the pond.
infant mortality of the electronics is a common occurrence.
once you make it past that, then things tend to last....but not like a 20yr old truck, back when they actually built them to last. now they build them for the highest profit margin, and factor in failures.
you cant fairly compare the two trucks
No can’t compare both. But it set the bar high.
My wife’s 9 year old Lexus GX460, with 120k has all kinds of electronics. Zero issues. Not one problem at all. It as well has set the bar high.
A new truck with 3k miles should have zero problems. In my opinion anyway. Maybe I have higher expectations than most.

How long have you had the truck? 3k miles isn't a lot. You must have either just bought it or it's been parked a lot.

Just bought it recently from a dealer. Used one owner trade. Had around 2400 miles when I bought it. They had it around a year before trading it.

Just started it, and didn’t touch auto start stop, but it’s crossed out on display.

Lot of reasons why it may not be activated (page 144 of manual):

Enabling Auto-Start-Stop
The system is automatically enabled every time you start your vehicle if the following conditions are met:
• The Auto-Start-Stop button is not pressed (not illuminated).
• Your vehicle exceeds an initial speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) after you have initially started the vehicle.
• Your vehicle is stopped.
• Your foot is on the brake pedal.
• The transmission is in drive (D).
• The driver's door is closed.
• There is adequate brake vacuum.
• The interior compartment has been cooled or warmed to an acceptable level.
• The front windshield defroster is off.
• The steering wheel is not turned rapidly or is not at a sharp angle.
• The vehicle is not on a steep road grade.
• The battery is within optimal operating conditions (battery state of charge and temperature in range).
• The engine coolant is at operating temperature.
• Elevation is below approximately 12,000 ft (3,650 m).
• Ambient temperature is moderate.
The green Auto-Start-Stop indicator light on the instrument cluster will illuminate to indicate when the automatic engine stop occurs.

If the instrument cluster is equipped with a grey Auto-Start-Stop indicator light,
it is illuminated when automatic engine stop is not available due to one of the above noted conditions not being met.

There is trip 1, trip 2 and fuel economy in the menu. Go to that fuel economy tab and page down. You will get to a screen that describes why your auto start/stop is not operating. I'm not sure it if works when not at a stop. I've only tried it when the ASS wasn't working. The description might also be in the manual. I'm not sure. I learned it here.

Well, it was on. Didn’t work at first two stops, then it started working and worked 7 different stops. Worked all the way home, no crazy lights. I’ll check it again in the morning.

That’s a good sign. I’d take it to the dealer since it’s under warranty. Keep us posted.

Spoke too soon. As soon as I got home, my wife had ordered food. Went back out and started it, and this happened. Drove it to get food, turned it off there, and when I started it back, it happened again. Check out all the lights and messages...
