Lol. I hear you. I have the E50 tune as well as his other octane tunes for the Ranger. I run 93 mostly. I have found that E50 and 93 Performance are very close in power for most daily driving so not having to mix is nice. 1/2 throttle up to WOT is where the E50 shines. The engine does run cleaner and there is less in the catch can which is very interesting...
I'm only on my second tank of e30 on the mustang and it is very impressive. I have a mixing app which makes it fairly easy to calculate. The biggest issue I've had is doing 2 separate credit card transactions at the same pump ( 1st world problems I guess haha). I haven't had enough time to inspect the catch can but now I'm curious after you say that.

I only have one E85 station and it is kind of out of my way. I have a good app too. I have also tested it and it is consistently an actual E85. I was running and tuning it in kind of cold weather, so I am going to try it again now that it is warm. It did well though. I think I need to give it more time.

I'm only running it because we have a new station half a mile from work. I definitely have to plan ahead though and not run so low that I can't get to it ha. I live in the middle of nowhere and it's the only high ethanol in my county. As far as knock has gone, mine has been great in the mustang. Hammering 3k to redline is flawless. It's when you push the throttle below that is when I have to pay attention. That's what makes me lean towards lspi being a possible issue with these motors.

Edit: I do have Torrie's 93 tune as well. Worse case scenario I would just run it almost empty and switch over to 93 if I was somewhere and couldn't get good corn gas.

It appears the Ecoboost ecus are a LOT different than the one in the mazda. MAP sensor only and full time closed loop fueling? Very interesting. I have a lot to look into.

Stratified has a nice article on tuning the EcoBoost. They do the Focus ST/RS and Fiesta ST. I think they might have branched to Mustangs too.

This makes me think about not getting an aftermarket tune, and I'm glad we chose 33" tires instead of 35" tires...

Hi Folks,

Okay...we have one data point of a blown motor...Rod...not likely, but damaged motor. So we have over 10,000 forum members...only one blown motor. We cannot even plot a graph. Two data points describe a line...three may describe a curve.... This poor fellow is non technical so he has to rely on others and his dealer is/has to provide the data, and if they brush him off with placation of poor boreascope pix....he likely does not know as he just posted them. Since this is a statistical 1 in 10,000 problem (probably much greater than 10,000)... it is my opinion that we let this poor fellow go and get a new motor and sell his Ranger.

Those of you with tunes can sleep well knowing that this will not likely happen to you also. Of course, you might be struck by lightening too...so do not venture outside your house, eh?

If 5 star gets the motor and tears it down, and shares the results...all the better, but I am betting this will not happen.

So enjoy your Tune and sleep well....Good night!

Best,

Thanks, Phil.

To clarify, my last comment was regarding the thought of me lugging our engine with oversized tires and an aftermarket tune at the same time- it was not a comment about the OP's unfortunate situation. I can do the math.

I just have no need for any additional horsepower, so I have no need to invite any risk from an aftermarket tune, even a statistically insignificant one... :)

The guys I worked with for the car company I retired from say it’s 10x worse than when I left. Glad to have made it.
