Why do these trucks have so many problems? Ford didn't start building them yesterday...

Out here in the wide open spaces ... they do chip seal ... a nasty process designed to crack windshields. My policy includes "premium" glass coverage that give me chip repair or new windshield if I'm not satisfied with the repair ... $0 deductible. I pay for it through the premium, but, it's worth it. I average a windshield every 18 months.

Good luck with the dealer.
May I ask what insurance company you use? I did buy a warranty package that is supposes to cover windshields and I am waiting to hear from them to see if they will cover the replacement of the windshield. Hoping they will. On the bright side of things, I can now use my defroster without worrying about cracking my windshield until I can get it replaced!!!

Same happened to me and everyone here told me it must be a chip and I should just use my insurance. I fought that but in the end it was my only choice. Mine cracked sitting in a parking lot warming up with the defroster on. My dealer escalated the issue through engineering because they couldn’t find a chip or any damage that would suggest anything other than a defect. It is a problem that ford won’t admit too. If it’s past the 12000 mile stress warranty then they say it was probably due to stress cracks and they don’t have to prove it. This is Ford quality.

There is a huge mark up on glass. Politely ask your service advisor to give you their price.

Wow WTF Ford - like everything else we took for granted 'Ford Tough' isn't what it is/was perceived to be anymore. Blame 'climate change'?

The roof trim a few of us have reported corroding away is covered for now at least.

I can confirm that. W/o BLISS (because it is separate and salvageable / swap out) New Tails are closer to $800 / $900.

I got a smoking deal on here from a member that saved my bacon with a slightly used tail for like $400ish bucks. Maybe it was $600? I don't remember but it was a lot less than the Ankle Grab & Poke Ford had in store for me.

But this defroster thing has me puzzled. What is that for? What does it do? I'll have to go out and see if my Arizona Ranger got one of these.

I use State Farm ... this is an add on ... might only be offered in areas of high windshield damage, Like chip seal areas. I gotta say, this add-on may be going away, my area has started using and oil based sealer on top of the chip seal that seems to hold the chips in place better. Used to be they just oiled the road, spread the chips and let them fly where they may ... now a few days after they put the chips down, they come back, sweep up the excess and then seal it with the oil based thing.

One good thing is that the windshields hold up to extreme heat. Otherwise we'd come out after work to a pile of shattered glass daily. :tumbleweed:

@SBCSD I use Travelers insurance and they've been great to deal with. When I had that happen to the rental car all I did was make the initial claim through a phone call (on a Sunday) and they took care of the rest with Budget. It's not expensive to add glass coverage and IIRC it's under $100. For some reason here it's a booming business and auto glass companies offer Visa rewards cards. My neighbor got one for $125 and he used his insurance so he made money having his crack. lol

Thats my insurance company also Dave. They have great rates with lots of options such as New vehicle replacement that is really cheap. Have all cars and house insured with them.

I have my home and auto with them and you're right their rates are very competitive. I also have the new car replacement on mine. :)

I just had this happen over the weekend. Strange too because the temp swings are non existent right now.
Gonna call the dealer and see what can be done.

I was told Ford will only replace the windshield if you have 12,000 or less miles. I had something like 14,000 on it when it happened. The windshield is around $1,000, I still have the cracked windshield, lol.
