Yea I would make them show you. I would go with OEM but thats just me. I didnt think there was aftermarket glass available yet? Safelite had to order mine direct from Ford as they didnt have any aftermarket options, still waiting for it too.

Well, there is a very tiny chip that I didn't notice until we tried the ball-point pen trick. Here's a magnified photo. The chip is smaller than the ball-point pen tip, but you can feel and see it. So, no warranty claim. The dealer said Ford would reject it. I'm getting an OEM replacement shield. Dealer said they'd give it to me at their cost so that helps a bit with the emotional trauma.

They couldnt find a chip on mine and Ford denied it so unfortunately SOL. No insurance?

I have a high-deductible insurance policy, so I'll probably not bother to file a claim.

To my knowledge FoMoCo makes their own OEM glass, I knew a number of guys with the last Ranger design that had re-occurring glass 'issues'.. I would say check with the dealer on coverage.
Yes, Ford makes their own glass outside Nashville TN. My father in law worked at that plant for 27 years. I got the tour 25 years ago. It’s a jaw drop for sure. Fascinating how it’s made. The furnaces, 3 of them spit out sheets continuously that are 60 feet wide. That happens 24/7 365 days a year. Can’t shut them down as it takes weeks to get them up again. The pile of slag glass off to the side of the plant is a mountain. So all Ford, Mercury and Honda glass is made in that plant. Think for at least 60 years.

I joked after I left the plant with my new FIL. I said the head QC inspector has it made! Had a lazy boy recliner in the middle of this room that was extremely well lit. The finished glass would come by fairly slowly and he would sit in his chair reclined with a 10’ bamboo pole with a grease pencil on the end. Any defect seen he would hash the spot and later it would be scrapped. What I didn’t know then was this guy had ā€˜eagle eyes’ he could see specs, bubbles that any of us would not notice. Even if the silkscreen was off he could spot it. Taught me an important lesson back then. Never size up anyone by your first encounter, especially in their house!

I am guessing he retired long ago.... His replacement needs more training.
