I am not a lawyer, but common sense and common decency say that if FP thinks that towing with the tune is dangerous, it should have put in a warning to that effect. However, getting them to agree to that in court is likely to be a very long, prohibitively expensive enterprise. (Ford has more money, lawyers, and time than you or I ever will....) By the way, as someone who runs the FP tune but does not tow, I am curious as to what, mechanically speaking, the problem is. How come the FP-tuned engine should not tow, whereas other tunes expressly include a towing feature?

The squeaky wheel saying might be in play here.....

On a side note don't rule out Unleashed Tuning......Torrie makes an outstanding tune and can set it up to tow as well.

I don't know much about tunes, but couldn't you just reset, or turn it off when you tow? Unless you have a friend that's a lawyer, and will do it for you pro bono you'll spend much more money than the tune itself cost you. Just wondering.

Seems reasonable.
I’m not looking for anything crazy, i just want them to make it right. I just feel like we were lied to by then omitting that bit of information early on.

The problem is I specifically got this for towing. Turning it off defeats the purpose of it. Just a waste of my money and time.

And in your mind what would that entail? I’m an attorney by the way
I can 100% say that Ford will take the "sue us" route 9/10 times. I had brake problems that started at like 4K miles, and they just fixed at 35K miles and 2 years of getting the runaround.

The only reason it is fixed now is I called in a favor by someone I know who knows a guy on the inside...

Unfortunately I think you’re right. They aren’t taking responsibility for this. Nor are they responding to my emails.
Has anyone else emailed or called them?

Your truck was set up to tow a maximum load from the factory, take it or leave it or buy something bigger if you need to tow more. The tune is a choice. You can switch back to stock when you need to tow, problem solved.

It doesn't hurt to have something within the load limits of the truck tow better though. While I agree the tune is probably not the towing silver bullet, it should at least make honorable mention in the tune documents that it's not intended for towing.

That’s a pretty weak response. Ford stated nothing of this issue. Even their Ford Performance level 2 and 3 rangers state they can tow 7500lbs. They are contradicting that by saying you shouldn’t tow with this tune. I’m not going to take blame for trying to optimize my truck and stay within a warranty. They changed their verbiage to the detriment of the consumer.

(Update)
They are supposedly passing this up to management. What they decide will set the precedent for if they are going to help us or screw us over. That’s if they even contact me back.

Just to be clear, they could very well help you and screw everyone else :)

In all honesty here this is something to ALWAYS consider when getting a tune. I'm pretty sure that all if not most tuning companies state to not tow with a performance tune unless they say you can. When I went searching for a tune I did some looking and got lucky with Livernois releasing the tow tune a few weeks after I got my calibrator. Is Ford Performance at fault for not saying to tow? Yes but at the same time so is the user who bought it and didnt ask before buying. Its a bit of a two way street here when you think about it.

Also if I remember correctly one member on here got an email from Ford Performance that it is ok. If only we could figure out who and if they have that email.

So what if I have a Ford Performance Tune and I decide to drag race my truck 50 times in a row and the engine goes boom on run 50! Should I go back to Ford and say "hey, you never said I couldn't drag race it 50 times in a row".

Just thinking....how can ANY manufacturer cover every single base? There needs to be some "buyer beware" or personal responsibility.
