I got so frustrated with how unreliable the Ford Pass remote start is that I stopped using it and am now using a Drone Mobile. I'm a dealer and installer for them so it only makes sense, plus it actually works!!

It's been down to 16 some mornings recently and it started right up with FordPass. It occasionally won't work, but I think that is something with the Ford server or something with FordPass itself. Nothing temperature related I'm sure.

I've got 3 years free with the Hyundai app for my Kona, then it's $99/yr just to remote start. Glad FordPass is free all the time.

You guys that have trouble with the app, is this a service (wireless) issue? Remember your phone must have service with YOUR provider, AND the TRUCK must have service through AT&T.
I haven't had my truck that long, but I start from the app at least twice a day. Always works when I can get it to recognize my push and hold.

Never had problems with the FordPass app on my Ranger or the 2018 Explorer (which I traded in for the Ranger).

Good device. I've had mine on my '09 Mariner for about 6 years, along with the key fob remote start. Never had a problem with either.

One of these days I'll make a comparison video showing how painfully slow the Ford Pass remote start app is compared to a quality product like Drone Mobile. The difference is incredible.

Hi Troy,

It pains me to see this sort of thing out of Ford. Sync sucks. It appears Ford Pass sucks.

A bit of a Back Story. As Ford transitioned to CAD from drafting layouts, we developed cutting Edge CAD software called PDGS..the acronym for Product Design Graphics System. It was wonderful and there were revisions and improvements to including a FEA Mesh system, with some bugs. But it sped up the design and the analysis process. Then the aftermarket got on board and developed systems that were superior...Ford kept "patching" the PDGS until finally as I was retiring, Ford junked PDGS and went with Catia. What went wrong? Same things that embody Sync and Ford Pass...there are not enough dedicated resources with the drive to remain cutting edge and we see this with rollout of Sync 3.4...then halt....bugs... I am of the opinion that Ford has to either create the drive and initiative to be a leader or quit and join the aftermarket which is aggressive in always getting new, better and faster. I am saddened to see not much has changed since I retired...

Off my Soap Box....

Best,

Phil...it's always a small world. When I got out of the Air Force in 88' my father-in-law got my foot in the door at Stone & Webster Engineering in Houston. I started out as a CAD support tech. We had five different CAD systems and five different OS to learn over the course of a year. One of the systems was Cadum Catia, your automotive CAD software, I believe developed by the French. We used it to design pressure vessels for petrochemical plants. Crazy system with space age looking knobs and such. Everything was mainframe based at that point. 300MB drives were the size of a small washing machine...lol. That's how I got started in engineering at the ripe age of 25.

My service provider is TMobile and i have few problems starting my Ranger or my Escape with Ford Pass. I just push refresh before I push the start button. Chances if the App won't refresh then you not going to start it.

I use Sprint, Tmobile, same for me.

But the app seems to refresh on it's own when I open it.

Only issue I've had is the app not recognizing my "push and hold."

I've just got to figure out the proper technique apparently.

I don’t know about all that, but I have Straight Talk & if my Ranger has AT&T, I don’t know. I know I don’t subscribe to it. But I have no problems at all starting my Ranger with the Ford Pass App. I do it a couple times a day.

All Rangers have a connection to AT&T. That connection is used for remote start, traffic updates, communication to Ford. You only subscribe if you want to use the totally useless trucks wifi.
