Got a surprise from my dealer today free tailgate lock bolt kit

Bought her in November saw threads about tailgate thefts went meh because I’m in the country.

This arrived from my originating dealer today. Install took five minutes. Came packed nicely with a note “we know people have reported thefts we appreciate your business and want to protect your investment”

Was surprised and pleased at the arrival of this.

That's the problem with this forum. You'll spend a ton of money on all sorts of things you didn't know you needed. lol

Isn't the tailgate difficult to steal anyway if you have your truck locked?

Mine locks whenever I lock the truck.

Those GD tweekers are grabbing tailgates to sell for the aluminum. Remember if you shoot a thief in the back immediately flip them over and shoot them in the front. Officer when he was threatening me I shot him in self defense when he fell he spun around and the second shot hit him in the back. ?

not really, if they were then they would install better all around alarm systems as well for free. this costs less than a case of beer to them and just like politicians kissing babies for photo ops, it does nothing to change the problem which is homelessness, unemployment and drug problems.

How do you know the dealer doesn't do that already? Most dealerships make many contributions to the local communities. Sadly crime, even stealing tailgates, will always exist....this was a nice gesture by the dealer that they didn't have to do.

I may have to get one of these. (or make one) My tailgate comes off everytime it is closed against any obstacle at floor level. never had a truck do that before.
I assume this would stop that.

I take it not all Rangers have a locking tailgate when doors lock. For me, locking it will
suffice...

Back in my foggy memory I think somebody said put a hose clamp on the slotted side to slow down the tweeker. They just want to grab and run and will not have tools or the time to un do the hose clamp.
