Did any of these get a 0-60 time or something related to anything other than off-road chops? Approach angles and ground clearance are nice but 90% of the owners would probably never even see wet grass. I need to know how well it hauls ass too.
car and driver has some estimates, they are usually pretty close

I didn't look at ALL of them, but looked at a lot, and they were very consistent. My takeaways:

Pros:
  • Engine works well - lots of power for driving and towing
  • Technology - the technology seemed to work well
  • Transmission - consensus seemed to think it worked well - smooth shifts and little to no "hunting" for gear
Cons:
  • The only real con that seemed to be somewhat consistent was the interior - cheap feeling

Overall, all of the reviews I viewed and read were really, really good. I didn't see any negative ones.
Agreed that the reviews are all generally very positive. The only other cons that resonated with me, perhaps because these are the things I noticed when I test drove for 5 minutes at the LA Auto Show are:
- Turbo lag from a standing start (https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2019-ford-ranger-first-drive-review/)
- Artificial noise (https://www.motor1.com/reviews/297971/2019-ford-ranger-first-drive/)

And for whatever reason the Edmunds review seemed less positive also:
Seems like he's concerned about interior, bounce on large waves on highway, response on steering, underbody clearance.

Anyone else concerned or have feedback about these items? I was really ready to order the Ranger when I first started reading about it, but now that I've test driven and noticed the lag and noise, I'm less sure. There is absolutely no question that the Ranger is a great truck - I'm just wondering if the turbo lag and the artificial noise would bother me. They definitely surprised me during the test drive.

I have not test driven the Colorado - anyone has thoughts/feedback on the Ranger vs. the Colorado z71?

When spending this kind of money you really need to be sure. If I was you I would test drive the others to make darn sure it's the right choice for you.

I noticed he said Ford stated the truck will make 300 hp on 92 octane @ 4:12 which is pretty interesting. Didn't think ford would give out figures on higher octane fuel.

My Fiesta ST has a little turbo lag, too. I've grown to like the experience. You get a nice kick of power very predictable in the middle of the power band and it just gives you that "hold on its about to get serious" moment between gears. If it bothers you, I'm sure there will be different tunes to give you the exact feel you want right off the line. As far as the fake sound, it sounds like it'll be a matter of pulling a fuse to get rid of it.

I did end up reading and watching all the reviews last night, and honestly, the items that most complained about were non issues to me. Turbo lag is turbo lag, but I didn't hear anyone complaining that it was that bad. Some reviewers seemed to have to try and find faults - like no soft open tailgate. If that is the worst you can find, ti has to be pretty darn good I'd day. The other interesting thing I heard was some were saying how quiet it was and others thought it was noisy - I guess that just shows "noise" is highly subjective.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the reviews. I thought the Ranger came out REALLY well. I will be ordering mine before the weekend is out.

no turbo-lag to noticeable turbo lag
quality plastic to vast swaths of cheap plastic
cheap and uncomfortable cloth seats to mind-blowingly comfortable leather (can there really be *that* much difference
blah blah blah

Pretty much done reading reviews. There isn't any more news I really care to read. I've driven the ROW ranger and it was great. By all accounts this engine/trans combo is a good one for my needs (crossing fingers). A couple minor irritants (like fake sound), but that's it. I'm not going to modify it for now so not interested in any kind of bolt-on. Super stoked to get back into a Ranger (probably won't see delivery until April or maybe May), but I'm not really interested in reading any more subjective commentary from these various outlets. It's kind of a buzzkill :)

You know, the one thing that I think was completely consistent was the engine/trans worked REALLY well together. I remember hearing LOTS of reviews saying how smooth the shifting was and that it didn't hunt for gears. The only negative I saw was that occasionally (it sounded like mostly going uphill) it could do a hard downshift. But it didn't seem to be a big deal. After driving the Tacoma with the "hunting gears" problem and hearing from others with 8 speed transmissions how they hated it shifting all the time, I was really glad to hear it sounds like thy did a really good job on the engine/trans combo.

I think I'm done reading reviews too -

I agree. A lot of so called experts may not be experts at all, just somewhat accomplished writers. The guy from Edmunds said that about the only place you saw the older Rangers was being driven by the cable guy. Strange, there are/were an awful lot of older version Rangers being driven by everyday people. I owned 3 or 4 of them myself. Makes me wonder just how much of an "expert" that guy is.
