Your Experience Buying or Selling a Used Canopy Topper

In the PNW, we call them Canopies, but I understand most everywhere else calls them Toppers, lol. Anyway...

I will need to sell my Snugtop Rebel by November. I'm going to have a Tune M1L pop up camper installed. Mine's about as nice as they come, with sliding windoors both sides, Yakima tracks up top, removable cab side window, programmable locking canopy hatch. Paid over $4k for the damn thing in 2022. I know these depreciate wildly, but I'm most worried about timely sales, having enough 5th gen owners out there in the market to buy one, either color matched (Cactus Gray in my case) or not. I'm in the Tacoma/Seattle area.

Has anyone bought or sold a used canopy for your 5th gen? How much did it sell for? How quickly did it sell? How did you handle the logistics? It realistically takes 4 strong dudes to remove and transfer it, without hoists, pulleys or forklifts. Did anyone sell to, or buy used from a topper/canopy retail shop, on consignment or just pay to use their equipment and labor to help swap?

If anyone's anywhere near me and interested, I'll be selling it early October, after a last camp trip with it late September.

I started to get a used topper here on the forum. The owner sold it before I could pick it up as it was out of state. I believe it was like $1500 below his initial cost. Cactus Grey is what I want but your clear across the country from me. And I really want the one that raises up above the cab line. Good luck with the sale.

I think it depends more on the supply vs demand in your area, plus your asking price… I’m not in the market for a topper but just like anything else, it depends on how badly I need/want it and what you’re asking me to pay. Let’s say it costs $4k brand new and you’re selling a used one for $3k. Depending on the condition and how “used” it is, I may just opt for a new one and have the shop install it. If you drop your price down to $2k, and I have a buddy who can help with the install, I might consider buying it from you instead.

I know that’s not really a great answer but the worst someone can say is no. Set your price high and if you’re not getting any bites, lower it $500 at a time. If someone lives far away, offer to meet them halfway (within reason) if they’ll pay a little more. Or ship it to them and have them pay for shipping, incorporate shipping cost into your asking price.

Since you’re not in a hurry to sell it, you’re really in the best position to negotiate. You’re the supplier, you set the price. If someone wants it bad enough, they’ll pay what you’re asking.

All depends really. The one I found for my frontier was listed about 2 weeks after getting it and I happened to be the first person that was t a bit too suspicious. I got it for $500 and it needed a couple of things that I was able to get from a local dealer
