Hello All,

Posting a thread to see if anyone finds a certain type of topper shell for another truck that will work? Specifically for the shortbed truck

I'm wondering if a Tacoma or Colorado shell will fit

I have a hard time wanting to spend $1800+++ for a new shell that you could grab for $400 off craigslist or facebook marketplace.

The problem is that nowadays every topper is designed and molded specifically for that particular truck. Neither a Tacoma or Colorado short bed has the same profile, bed rail to roof height, length, fitment to the bed, etc. as our Rangers. But I suppose if you wanted to get one that is a little too long, rides a little too high above the roof line, and needed some mods to make it mount correctly then more power to you. Or you could go with a basic aluminum boxy style one. Might find one of those that's close enough since those aren't molded to match the profile of the truck at all anyways.

Toppers aren't cheap, and I'm with you there on how much that sucks. But in the end, if you want one that fits right and looks like it's supposed to be there, then I think that's pretty much all you've got right now unfortunately.

I made a post about this but I put a 88 Ranger shell on my 19’ definitely not a perfect fit but free is more doable than $2000+ function over form for me

Tyler, how is that topper working out? I am planning to get a new one but I was thinking about this as a temporary solution. Or maybe a permanent solution. From what I hear there are a lot or quality problems with new toppers. If I had more time I would make my own. (I have the skills)

Coincidentally, I have a 2019 supercab and want a midrise, just like your set up!

A Colorado one would probably work. I had a Colorado Tonneau cover on my Ranger for a few years. Tell you the truth, it actually fit better than the Ranger one does. 🙄

The difference I found was a Colorado was 1" narrower in width and 1.5" longer in bed length on a 5' Ranger bed.

This cap was for a 7' bed. I was able to cut it and use it on my older Ranger. It would work on a new Ranger Ext cab, I bet
