People clear off snow?

I used to hate getting behind lazy people like this when I was back in MA! While the pile on their roof wasn't this huge lol there was always a few who'd be driving around without clearing their roof. What's worse was the ice as it comes off in sheets and does a lot more damage to everyone else around.

I think it was last year some old guy stopped his car right in the middle of traffic. I thought WTF? He got out started clearing his windshield of the ice/snow that came of his roof when he stopped. It completely blocked his view of the road. And he had no scraper so was clearing it by hand.

And what's with people who are too lazy to clear their rear window, or even turn on the rear defrost?

I don't have a rear defrost. That's one thing I wish my ranger had,....that and heated mirrors!

I keep something similar to this at home; I think mine curves a little bit more, and it reaches to middle of the roof of the Ranger no problem:

In the Ranger, I keep something like this one (no yellow on mine though; those parts are blue, too) for clearing off snow gathered while out. It's not long enough to reach the roof without standing on the running boards, but it's more compact and wedges into the space between the rear seat-back and C-pillar very nicely.

They're affordable, effective and, since they don't have any gizmos or gadgetry, can be relied on to function even in extreme cold. The brush can also pivot on both of them, so I can either sweep to the sides or towards the back/front.

When I had the Ranger those brushes would work just fine. But now with the Expedition....have any of you seen how tall these rigs are ????? And just the square footage of the roof is about equal to the entire Ranger !!!!
Anyway, this is what I have to use now........

So dangerous!

A big rig with a 53’ trailer started shedding thick sheets of ice off the trailer on a busy freeway here - I backed way off and changed lanes but a couple of pieces still managed to hit the windshield, roof, and sunroof of my Passat. Only the roof had damage. When I got the driver’s attention and he pulled over, his entire rig was thick in ice. His truck and trailer were clear when he left for his run but he had been driving from up north through freezing rain that built up over the hours and when he got further south into warmer temps, things started to fly off. He wasn’t aware of how badly it built up until I waived him over. His company took care of my damage and he was truly apologetic but it was scary!

LEOs here are quick to ticket when folks don’t clear the roof of their vehicle.

I did that a couple of times when I was in the Navy. That job absolutely sucked! Of course we didn't have the enclosed booms like shown here.

This is the only de-icing we ever have to do here. I drove through this little town almost exactly a week earlier on my way to a high school reunion. So glad it wasn't a week later.
