650 miles and yet to break 16 on the lie -o-dometer... dunno, maybe it's the steel hood and fenders on the '22's? how I long for the 19 rating!

LB
My 21 took around 1200 miles to see mpgs go to normal.

Also the Tremor package came out with the 21 MY. So 21s have steel hood/ fenders, etc.

It's how it's driven, usually I get 16-17 mpg, light footed cruising on the hwy I can hit 20, maybe 21 if I'm really easy on the throttle, but that's hard for me, overall I get 17 hwy and city the way I drive.

My truck has stock tires, leveled in the back not the front and the Ford tune.

I recently was driving through Arizona had the truck on the speed limiter for miles at a time, at 3800 RPM it was getting 15.7-16.4 mpg, that's pretty good in my opinion, the F150 I traded in would get between 10-11 mpg flat out like that. (disclaimer, wide open empty road, no other cars whatsoever)
What is the Ford tune?

22 Tremor. First tank of 87 gas.

80% highway. Have 262 miles on her with about 1/4 tank of gas left in tank.

23.1 mpg according to the info screen. Will hand calculate when i will it up. Way more than i was expecting with so few miles.

Just saying.

Livernois 93 Tune, Velossa Tech Big Mouth Scoop with port matched radiator top cover, and K&N drop in filter.

EDIT: tonneau cover too

I don't believe the hood switched from aluminum to steel, only the front fenders. I think every vehicle Ford builds and has built for at least the last 15-20 years has an aluminum hood.

I just drove my new FX4 home from the dealer yesterday. It comes with 265/65-17 Hankook AT tires (very mild AT tires, almost all season). On the 200+ mile trip, with a lot of 65 mph two lane highway, but also a lot of very steep twisty two lane county road, I was stunned when I pulled into the garage and the trip computer said 27.6 MPG. I did a lot of running around town today and the combinmileage average had dropped about 1 MPG.

I had been thinking I would quickly swap out the HK’s for some K02’s, but the mileage is so good, I think I will keep them for a while, at least until next winter and I see how they do on some of the tougher snow/ice tracks.

I will reset the trip and do about a weeks in town to see how that does.

Congrats on getting your Ranger! That's some really good mpg but when you fill up you might want to hand calculate it too as a lot of them are off from the factory. Mine was 1.5 mpg off but you can correct it using this thread here. I started at 944 and it took about 6 tanks to correct itself but it's dead on now. I know some don't care but I'm OCD and like it to be as close as possible.

I will check the 'puter against what the weights and measures guys say. ;). I didn't fill this one up the first time, so my hand calc might not be any more accurate the first go round (I always stop when it clicks off, most people click at least one more time...), but good advice on checking. I too am pretty OCD, at least until things stop changing and I lose interest. :)

It did dawn on me that I got about 1500' advantage coming back (the dealer is in high country), but I did have a summit to get over, so did quite a bit of climbing before I got that tailwind the rest of the way home.

Frankly, given the route I was on, I would have been thrilled with anything approaching 20. Our old GM V8 got 10-12 mpg on the same route (unless it was towing, then a lot worse.. ;)).

Usually 20 is about average to start then it gets a little better once they break in. You're already beating that by a mile so maybe you got a unicorn and are going to win the best mpg on here. lol Did you check to see what engine you have.:D

Another great way to track your miles (and add service receipts) is from the Fuelly app. You just plug in the info from your fill up receipt and mileage and it calculates it and saves it for you. It's a great app for those of us with OCD. ?

I might take a look at that app, but frankly, me and my iPhone are barely on speaking terms, so maybe not too. ;)

Adding to the complexity, I tend to fill up at Costco, so there is a lot of peer pressure to vacate the spot asap once your done filling. I am usually lucky if I remember to push the "get receipt" button, but I will make a real effort to nail down my real versus displayed mileage for the first 5K miles or so.

I did open the hood, seems to be the right engine, although they put the battery on the wrong side, so who knows? :)

I don't have my notepad with hand-calcs nearby, but I just finished my 1,000 break-in on my '22 XLT Tremor. For the first 1000 miles, the dash says 23.8 mpg. I've also reset the 2nd trip meter a couple of times. Yesterday I drove 276 miles and averaged 22.6 (in dash estimates) while hauling field gear and a kayak in the bed. I'm tickled so far. But of course, I'm sure hand-calculations will show a different number as so many have mentioned.

I am approaching 3k miles on my '21 FX4. I usually do a lot of stop-and-go city driving and get @ 18.0 - 18.2 mpg. When I do a lot of city driving, I find my actual mpg is @ 1.8 mpg less than what the computer says. This past week, I did @ 80% highway driving and just got 22.0 mpg hand calculated, The computer said 21.9 mpg. My take on the mpg thing is that if you do a lot of true stop-and-go driving, your mpg will be close to 18/19 mpg or less. If your driving highway or just not much stop-and-go traffic, you will see well over 20 mpg.

I just hand calc'd a mixed city/highway tank and got 20.1 mpg. Computer said 20.6, so not far off.
