Well, most of my Nissan experience is with an 04-05ish v6 Frontier. While it's been reliable for my F.I.L and everyone who's borrowed it (for the most part) it just seems... weak? Chincy? I'm not sure. Like I said.. hard to explain. It just doesn't seem as robust as it's competitors.. the seating position is as uncomfortable as the tacoma, the level of interior refinement is extremely weak even for its era, it's v6 drinks absolutely way too much fuel for how incredibly slow it is ( I thought it was a 4cyl until I was asked to change it's battery lol) it's auto trans is crap IMO.. I just really don't like it. Id take a same-year ranger over a Frontier any day of the week.

The other Nissan was an 04-05 maxima 3.5 6mt.. and while that one was quick and comfortable enough.. something like a same year camry just "feels" better.
I'm wondering if you had the D22 Frontier? 2004 was the last year of that body and 2005 had a completely different body and power train. The D22 Frontier had the VG33E. As reliable as it was, it definitely wasn't a fast engine. When the D40 was introduced it got the VQ40DE and that was a HUGE improvement.

The Ranger is the sixth truck I have owned over the past 55 years and it is the first one that had under seat storage. The two compartments may not be as big as some other trucks out there but it is more than adequate for the things I carry that need to be inside the cab. Everything else fits nicely in a swing case in the bed.

Under seat storage would be the very last thing I would consider when shopping for a new truck. I don't think I even knew the Ranger had the two compartments under the back seat when I bought it.

For trucks I have owned it the Ranger was the 3rd. I had 2 2016 Frontiers(had a base model then went for a Desert runner afterwards). It had the nice size trays and what I used them for was to hold the things for the bed(straps and things) along with all my towing equipment (few hitches and what not) it helped with keeping things bouncing around in the bed. Besides that the only other thing I didn't like with the Ranger was the Old Filter Location.

I know its not a great picture, but its all i found available online.
Which major components would you like to move to make room for bigger in floor storage?
There's not a lot of real estate with availability to dig a bigger pool.

Trust me, I get what you mean. They simply could have opened it up in front of the trays and a bit to the sides. Why they didn't? Who can say

All my straps, bungees, etc reside in a swing case where they are easy to get to. My prior truck had a box shaped like a swing case but it was bolted in and did not swing.

I like the Frontier, but Rangers and Tacomas have the best aftermarket options. (Bumpers, toppers, light bars, lifts, suspension, etc.)

Unfortunately true. How Nissan got the short stick compared to the rest for aftermarket add-ons is beyond me. That said there is all sorts of BS add-ons you can get f or a Jeep and Toyota. Why you ask? Because it's a Jeep or Toyota...

The lack of storage does suck. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the 6G is any better. The bed on the 6G looks too be improved though.

As we all know the storage under the rear seats are a bit lacking. Don't believe me? Then ask yourself why Ford didn't do anything like this? Mind you this is in the Nissan Frontier!!

I will also add that there are a few big problems that Ford needs to take care of. 1: stop trying to release 50 new models at a time, 2: a base model truck doesn't need a massager for your a****** built into the seat, 3: they need to make the dealers stop the bullshit markup on all the vehicles!!

Until that is done it will be hard for me to go back to the Ranger.
On the mark-up from dealers; the dealers are private businesses and in general the manufacturer does not control the final price....no matter who makes it. Also, from what I see, especially due to low stock of new vehicles, every manufacturer at the retail dealer end is potentially charging markups on vehicles. It is not just Ford. Dodge is doing it. I looked at buying a Jeep and they wanted $8K over. There are still many dealers that sell at MSRP...you need to just look around. My chosen dealer, except for a Raptor F150 or a highly rare Mustang sells at MSRP.

Here's the thing, if I have to travel a great distance to get a vehicle it better be something special that I want and not available anywhere. If it is available anywhere like the Ranger(not counting the vehicle shortage) then I'm not going to waist time going else where.

And too add General Motors got serious about the Dealership Markup crap before and took action. Many dealers were ready to loose their license over it. If only other manufacturers would do the same.
