This may be off the tangent, but it is about extended warranties.

In Jan. of 2017 I purchased a brand new Whirlpool french door fridge from Lowes for just about 3K., I also opted for a 7 year extended warranty, which, if effect is only good for 6 years because it runs concurrently with Whirlpool's 1 year warranty, the warranty set me back another $1978.

The fridge has proved to be a lemon, in the 4 years I've owned it the compressor, entire icemaker assembly, main computer control board and the in door control panel/dispenser assembly, were replaced, all under warranty. The latest issue with it is that both fridge door gaskets are torn, Lowes told me that the gaskets "will not be available in a timely fashion" so they've thrown up their arms and decided to reimburse me the full purchase price of the warranty, of course if anything goes wrong with it from now on I'm up the creek. After the computer control board was replaced the tech told me that I had already made my money back on the warranty, and then some. BTW, the gaskets are STILL available from Whirlpool and a check from Lowes for $1978 arrived in the mail last Saturday.

If it weren't for the extended warranty, the fridge would have been recycled into rebar or someone's new Corolla years ago.
I guess it worked out for you but that seems way high for a fridge warranty. That’s more than most here are paying for seven years on a Ranger . Heck , your warranty price was more than my fridge, which I think is pretty nice. Reminds me of this:

I paid for 6 years 150K miles. I figure for the price of the warranty, all I need to have go bad is one turbo and I'm in the green. And since I drive lots of miles, I should be well towards the end of that coverage by the 6 year mark.

It's been 5 years. If you are still on here and still own the Ranger, how did it work out?

I never used it once. The last thing that broke was a trans speed sensor which was just before 60k. I’m at 79k now only because I no longer drive to an office anymore(it used to be 700 miles a week or more). I should have refunded the warranty as soon as I realized I’m a better mechanic for 99% of things than both of my local dealerships (and covid sent me home to work permanently).

I've used it once for the water in the spark plugs issue. It hasn't paid for itself and apparently there were issues with the dealer getting it covered under the ESP and they had to eat half the cost as well. I'm still having issues with my transmission and some valvetrain rattle (that the dealer assures me is normal) that I can't get consistent enough to get actually diagnosed and covered at a dealer yet.

Since you can buy the extended warranty anytime during the factory warranty period, I'm personally going to wait until the last month of the factory warranty to decide whether to buy the extended warranty. By then I'll have a good idea how reliable the Ranger's been for me and also how reliable it's been for all the other owners here. So I guess I'm in the "Don't Know Yet" camp.
Hey there question I have a 2020 xlt sport I just hit 55,100 mile and 5 year powertrain warranty on 12/22/2025 my question is I have had any problems but were can I buy warranty and what do u suggest??? Thank you

Then they completely mis-represent the warranty (Or they just sold me the expensive one) because they specifically said every piece of electronics, every part of the truck from the front bumper to the back bumper (bumper to bumper)
I bought an Allstate Premium B2B 10yr/150Kmi warranty when I took delivery of the truck 5/21. I went with Allstate rather than Ford because they had longer coverage, I could get repairs done anywhere, not just Ford dealers, and was a little cheaper besides. There was substantial savings buying it then vs down the road. And warranties, like the vehicles themselves, keep going up.

Replacement items, such as brake pads, fuses, battery, belts & hoses, etc are not covered. Led bulbs like dome lights fall under replacement items. The led headlights and taillights, which do not have replaceable elements... Dunno I'd have to check my EW, but I had the EGR/DPFE done at 93Kmi for a $100 deductible off of the total bill of $1,869; over half the cost of the warranty, and I still have 5/55 left of bumper to bumper coverage.

Good peace of mind, IMHO. I can afford a $100 deductible much easier than bill for several hundred or thousands.

It's a crapshoot. I buy EWs if it is a reasonable price for the covered items and term. I don't get them on electronics, as if they go out, it's usually right away, or they'll run forever, like my 2009 Mac desktop*. Motorcycles I don't because they can be pretty expensive (Suzuki), and I can do most work myself that doesn't require welding or painting. For a Ranger, I would buy a powertrain warranty minimum if I bought one used.

* It still works pretty well, haven't been able to update it for about 4 years (32 bit processor), but it's good for Pages and Numbers (Word & Excel for you PC-ers) and Internet. Lately, it has been decoupling from our network randomly, so I suppose it may be time to recycle it.
