I’m in the midst of building a reasonably capable overlander out of a Ranger. I started with a well optioned ‘21 XLT 4x4 in Cactus Gray. The stock truck went straight to APG in SoCal for their full ProRunner conversion. The build included long travel suspension with King dampers, hd rear leaf pack to handle the loads I’ll be carrying. The long tavel setup adds about 10” width to the track so the fenders and bedsides are replaced with carbon fiber to cover the 35” tires. While APG was in there we did fr and rr bumpers, winch, and lights. APG also fit an ARB air compressor.

Is your antenna now ineffective being under the RTT?
AM/FM is not affected. S/XM does work unless I am heading south. All other directions are ok. I normally just use my phone for navigation and music anyhow.

Billiebars + tent riser + gfc superlite + truxedo tonneau
(Tent riser allows me to see well out the back windshield)
Hey SurfRanger,
Couple of questions on your tent. How much overhang above the tailgate do you have with the Superlite?

Any issues with length laying flat out? I'm 6ft and sleep on my back, not sure I'd have clearance for my big feet sticking up.

Bummed to hear that GFC just discontinued the Superlite tent a few days ago, that was in my top 3 replacement RTT.

Currently working on the camper interior build out. I’ve installed BuiltRight paneks and a cougar organization bags. Will have the HiLift and a few other essentials mounted shortly.

Next up, we’re going to build a raised floor which will accommodate our camping essentials under the floor. We’re using Radius outfitters soft-side cases to organize everything.

As we build out tge floor, we’ll be wiring up 175 watts of Renogy solar and a 100ah lithium battery along with an MPPT/DC-2-DC charger are in the garage to power my National Luna fridge. A 10 gallon water tank and pump will give us pressurized water. LED lighting courtesy of madCap will have us well lit up at night.

Along with the Overland specific mods, I’ve done quite a few supporting mods. The engine is running the Ford Performance tune, a Mountune intercooler, Mishimoto intake, GFB DV+ VTA progressive diverter, and an AWE cat back exhaust. I’m into a few more power mods than planned but they help a little while we wait on a gearing solution to match the 35’s.

i’ve also done Alpharex led headlights which was quite an adventure, requiring pulling the fenders and much of the front end.

Lastly I just threw on a set of Shrockworks sliders. I need to do their skids at some point

Once getting this stage of the build done, it was off to the East Coast, SC and NC for 4 weeks on the trail beginning mid October. The shake down of this build showed some deficiencies that are being addressed this winter, mainly lighting and how that operates as well as securing items - need a more user friendly solution than ratchet straps. Those are time consuming and often Frustrating...

After resisting the strong urge to rack and RTT, i listened to the overland crowd and gave up my RTT obsession and will be getting a good swag instead. Frees up a lot of $ to be used on other gear without giving up the same basic functionality and convenience in the field without all the hassle when I'm not in the field.

Ughhh. Here is mine, but I have so much more I want to do to it. And it's all getting put on hold because I'm buying a second house (moving to Florida and putting my current home on the rental market). So my bigger plans for the truck will have to wait. :(

That's a great build dude! Also great shot getting the 88' Series 3 in the background. Having owned a RHD Series 109, they are unreliable AF; but they sure are pretty <3
