It's so frigging hard - I'd wake up crying a year later after our Australian Shepherd passed. We had Fred for 17 years and he was a rescue. It took us another 10 years before Cheech came into our life. A little guy that had been in 7 places the two years before we got him, including the city pound and two rescue groups.

Here he is at the pound trying to be a tough guy, which isn't easy when you're wearing a Christmas sweater! =D

And now living the good life napping on momma

And terrorizing the chippies! Keep them away from Soupie, Cheech! =)
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story with Fred and Cheech, @subquark. It's evident how deeply our furry companions touch our lives and leave lasting imprints on our hearts. Cheech's journey to find a loving home after being in multiple places showcases the resilience and love that rescue pets bring into our lives. The image of him at the pound in a Christmas sweater trying to be tough must have been a heartwarming sight.

The last couple days have been heii for us. 2 months ago we lost our old girl and gott to the point we wanted another dog in the house. The local rescue Lollypopanimals.org took in 120 dogs from a hoarder / puppy farm situation several weeks back and started making them available for adoption. Well we decided to go look at them and found a wonderful 3 month old puppy. Sassy came home with us and was turning into a wonderful companion. Then 3 days ago she had what looked like a grown spurt and was constantly on her back stretching her muscles. Next day she became incontinent and start acting up. Following day she developed a fever, a rear leg went limp, and stopped eating and drinking. Off to the vet next morning and they injected liquid between her shoulders for dehydration and gave her antibiotics along with muscle relaxers. Didn't help and yesterday she spent the day at the vets with IV fluids and medication. They did tests and xrays that were looked at by a radiologist and couldn't find anything. The drugs got her standing but by the time we got home she could no longer stand and a third leg went limp. I did some research and found it's a neuropathy issue with Border Collies that occurs when both parents have the same bad gene and seeing her background that could easily happen in a situation like she was born in. It is not curable and happens between 2 and 7 months. We spent the night with her on the couch crying because this morning she has to be put down. She was a sweetheart and quickly found her way into our hearts.

This why I hate puppy mills! Running one should be a capital offense.

So sad for you.

Thanks. We had no idea there was anything wrong the first week. Then the bad genes took over and destroyed her nervous system in a couple days. We learned a very expensive lesson by trying to help out. The worst part is it will affect all in the litter between 2 and 7 months so we are trying to contact the organization along with our vet to warn them should there be others.
RIP Sassy

Very cute pup, would have grown into a loving and loved pet.

The problem with puppy mills. They don't care about genetics and probably also do some inbreeding. Just promotes more genetic problems. Wrecks it for legitimate breeders. Not to mention the people like you, who have to go through this.

Thanks Tracy. The short time we had her was precious. She was smart, loved everyone, and the best puppy ever. The organization we adopted from is going to do a full autopsy Monday to see if it will affect others in the litter that have been adopted, or are waiting for adoption. We really miss her.

I thought I posted this, so apologize if I did on another thread.

A 12-foot branch broke off from about 30 feet up and came down like a spear! Went 6-8 inches into the ground, fell over and dented a light-duty metal fence panel.

nearly had a Cheech-ka-bob!
