Both of mine hate to get their feet wet. When it rains they won't even go out ro pee if I don't go out too to coax them out...briefly.

He looks so awesome!

So does he start moving as soon as he's in the warm water? And I guess water is a bit of an exciting and foreign thing for him.

I bet he loves that sun!

My Cheech just melts in the sun and can stay in it all day. So it must be sheer heaven for Tito!

Go, Tito, Go! =)

Hi David,

Tito is used to these soaks as are most Sonoran Desert Tortoise who will crawl into summer monsoon rain puddles. Tito is stationary enjoying the warmth for about 15 minutes and then starts moving around. I pick him up and put him on a towel and dry him off a bit then he sits on my lap and air dries a bit more until he wants down. The reason Tortoise crawl into puddles is hydration as they can and do drink water via their anus. Another interesting fact is that they can go for over a year without taking a drink of water...

He also enjoys the sunshine but his natural curiosity will get the better of him and he starts moving around again after a heat soak of about 20 minutes.

What was unusual is that he was very hungry after his 2nd day of wake up. Usually it is a week or so before he begins to eat. We will see today if he eats again. I started him off on a tiny strawberry, his desert, and then switched to the kale...

best,
Phil

It was the appetizer.

A little sweet before dinner and I tear it up!
