I have a minor issue I am posting about in a relevant thread for others that have the bird chirping sound from the rear. So not trying to get input on solving the bird debacle with this one. As far as warranty work; Ford acknowledged that it is annoying and has had it for a bit trying to find the source and can't - so far. I can't be too mad because I am running around in a 2021 Explorer for free (that proves the 10spd can shift smooth and they do know how to make a non-mush brake pedal).

All of that crap said; has anyone run into an issue with Ford when they can't fix a minor problem and if so - what did they do? Extend the warranty on the general area out - see if it gets worse maybe? Not even sure what I want them to do if they can't find the problem. I tried and failed myself to stop it with a can of silicone grease. It won't make a noise when sitting still. Jumping around on it, etc.. nothing. I did attempt to get a free tune out of it to go away, but they said "Haha, I would if I could. This is like finding a needle in a haystack". Even with a tune, if this doesn't stop it is going to slowly drive me insane. I hate weird noises coming from a car that isn't a cheap POS or beaten on for racing/offroad.

Edit: Not trying to lemon law it or anything. It still works just fine so not sure if that would even apply. I like the truck - just annoyed with this one issue.

Sorry I can't be off much help. Sounds like you need to take it to the witch doctor ?

Tried that; bird is still alive and may be even more pissed off than it already was...

From all the posts I see about this, sounds a lot like the infamous leaf spring noise from the F150s.
I've had similar issues on my f150, isolator pads on the leave springs.

Could I be way off? of course. I don't have a ranger yet so I cannot say.

only thing i can think of would be try another dealers service center. maybe you will have luck and get someone that knows what causes the bird chirp. i bet you already tried that though. maybe contact ford customer serv. and tell them you have already been to the service center etc. and still no fix and see what they offer.

I didn't make a call yet and second dealer. I don't want to get someone in trouble over this.. they are trying and gave the loaner when they kept it to keep messing with it. It just seems like something they should either extend the warranty on (if the sound is a hint something is going to break) or compensate in some other way - points, etc.

or am I being too greedy/annoying? The last time I have dealt with an annoying noise like this was on a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. That one turned out to be a bearing in the trans output shaft that never actually gave up/blew up - just let itself be heard until I let it go with 130k miles on it.... This truck should be a bit better than an early 2000 Hyundai with an MSRP over 30k.

Hi Patrick,

File a formal complaint with Ford Customer Care. Now you have an elephant track if it becomes a major issue. Many of the Chirp posts were tracked to the center bearing of the driveshaft and you may be another one with this problem. If the dealer cannot find it, then elevate it for field service engineer from Ford to assist.

You might also be able to track it down your self with a mechanics stethoscope, discard the diaphragm and steel probe...you have very directional device to track down noise sources. Then with the vehicle on jackstands at the rear and another person, start the vehicle and put into drive with foot firmly on the brakes with left foot and slowly feed gas pedal to increase rpm until the squeak is heard...then using your Stethoscope to get the direction of the noise...keep your head outside the wheel base just in case... Make sense...

best,
Phil

Thanks Phil; it makes sense. The first noise I had - followed your advice and found that it was actually that trans pump noise and not the alternator like I thought. It sure as hell sounds like an alt going bad when I am near a building. I let that one go as normal and I can only hear it when I am right next to a building; like getting lunch at a fast food place close.

If they give it back doing the bird noise stuff Ill make the call to better document the issue, try and not get the tech in trouble, and then take another crack at tracking it down myself.

I’d try another dealer or go to an independent shop. Might be worth it to pay an independent off road or truck shop to diagnose it.

Hmm... that may help me justify getting the bilsteins now (Wife: why does the brand new truck need that?!?) and asking the same shop to find the noise. If it isn't the shocks making the freaking noise.....

Hi Clement,

You know that WD40 is not a lubricant, eh? WD stands for Water Displacement and 40 is the 40th attempt to accomplish this. You need a spray lube like a can of Garage Opener Lube from Home Depot...

Phil

I did it just to identify if that’s what I was hearing. If it comes back I will try something else
