I have a few tiny chips in my windshield and nothing has popped so far. There is also no guarantee with a chip fix service either. at the end of the day it may or may not crack so it really comes down to do you want to pay money now for something that may or may not be a non-issue?
I am a bit of a spaz and small things will bother the hell out of me.

Like my epic battle with bird noises.. the solution was painfully obvious when someone brought it up here. I didn't feel to bad. It kicked the dealers ass as well. At least I got a rental.

Also happy to see my possibly bad battery is under warranty so... I'll take the money I was gonna a throw at a new AGM and see if the local guys will attempt to fix it. If they say it's too small to bother with I'll leave it alone.

That fix and maybe some rear shocks another member had for sale... if no one grabbed them already. Stop the bounce in the arse.

I dont know what the difference is but these windows are sound deadening from what I read on the web and have a better chance of coming apart too, I seen the sticker on mine the other day and looked into it, it must work because there is little to no noise on the road and I like that :)

Two glass companies refused to attempt the fix.

Ding is too shallow, they both think the resin won't grab and will be gone soon. Neither wanted to mess with the chip to make it big enough.

Each confirmed its only in the top layer and not a risk to spread. If the resin did stick, it would be to make the mark less noticeable.

So... guess tiny top layer dings are a non issue? That or they are hoping it will fail. That is why the second opinion.

Might still put some of the cheap DIY kit things in and see if it sticks.

The bottom line what to do should be based on, "Whatever it was hit right in my line of sight." If it's in your line of sight, you have to replace the windshield- otherwise any patch could create wave distortion; light reflection; sight interference; and what not. Any of those could generate a distraction while driving. If you do get a new glass, get an OEM windshield, then there is no worry if all your options will connect- like a wiper warmer option which requires a wire. BEWARE: The insurance companies keep a record of claims over $1,000- can't have more than five over 5 or 7 years- or you might have trouble if you switch companies. Windshields on the Ranger might exceed $1,400 (don't forget calibration)- so that counts as something they notice. CONCLUSION: a patch is much less money, and one can try that, but if you notice any variation in your glass, upgrade to the OEM windshield. ( IMHO)

Nice long literate post. I get your concern, but the windshield probably will be fine for a long time. Sounds like the damage did not penetrate to the laminate.
Now on the other hand, I would be over the top concerned about paint peeling, anywhere on the truck. I could go on but suffice it to say... that could be a biggie.

Agreed on the paint. I was not happy to see that at all.
