My first daily driver out of high school was a 1980 Mercury Capri ( mercury version of the mustang)
It had the 2.3 liter inline 4 with a 3 speed auto.
After 2 years I bought a used 1972 Mustang and pulled the 302 out of it and dropped into the Capri with custom engine mounts and a C4 tranny
Rebuilt the engine .030 over with a dual plane manifold and holley 4 barrel as well as a can and roller rockers. I had the heads modified with satellite valve seats so I could run unleaded gas.
I kept the existing rear end in it but that only lasted a few months. Replaced it with a Kaufmnan Products 8.8 inch rear end and while I was down there replaced the C4 with a Fairbanks racing automatic.

Kept it for about 8 years

Edit: geez, tablets suck for spell check. Those were Stellite valve seats

1969 Mustang Mach 1 which my dad was the original owner and bought as a leftover in 1970 for $1700. That sat mostly because my mom didn't trust me in it so I had a 1978 Mustang II for most daily driving.

1976 Ford Elite. Brown with a gold partial Landau top. Mom gave it to me when she bought her 'vette but I was only 15 at the time. Damn near took the paint off waxing and waiting until I got my license at 16. Had the opportunity to buy it back from the guy I sold it to but one of his employees totaled it while I was waiting in his office.

I bought a 66 Stang (coupe), maroon with black interior. it had a 289 & 4 speed. sounds great ? it had highway gears, I couldnt spin the tires at all but it would bury the speedo on the top end.
it sported a tube grille & blacked out rear tail light panel and running M/T mags.

sold it to buy a pick up to haul a dirt bike....................

1956 Ford F100 cost $200. A friend helped swap in a '72 ford 302 w/ C4 Trans, the original 409 rearend gave it a Top speed no more than 65.
But it got there quick.

This is how it looked in my dreams.
When I stomp down on the throttle of my 2019 Ranger it reminds me of that old '56. . . . One day my dad asked why the tires were bald only in the center of the tread. I said it couldn't be from Burnouts, they must be overinflated.
(yea, that's it)

My first car in HS was a 1951 Ford. Not my car but it looked just like this. Originally it had a flathead 6 cylinder engine. I managed to blow that up and put in a 53 Merc flathead V8. Sure wish I still had that car.

Nice so you had two generations of Mustangs for your first car/cars.
Very sweet.

1942 Ford GPW. Only kept it 1 year as it drove me nuts doing 45 mph top speed which seemed to be at 10,000 rpm. It was in very good condition when I was done with it and I made a good amount of money on it. It would climb trees if you wanted. I got it cheap cause the block was cracked. My friend welded the crack with inconel rod with pre heat and post heat and it was good to go. My fathers friend was a general in the Army and was totally pissed at me for selling it. (not to him) They bring good money now as it was possible mine was a prototype. I think Ford only made them 3 years.

1982 Mercury Capri with a 2.3 and a 4 speed. Dad bought it for the towing bill against it from a local used car lot/shop. A runaway had lived in it for 3 months and then the engine broke a rod bolt. The thing was an absolute mess and the perfect car for a 15 year old kid to learn how to work on and clean up. I later swapped in a 302 and AOD from a thrashed 1980 Thunderbrick. I wish I still had my Capri...
