Well, I needed a 'gap' vehicle, so while I continue to wait for the next 4-9 months :fingerscrossed: on my ranger and watch the list of deletions grow, I found a '22 Wrangler 4xe on the lot below MSRP. Hoping that when my Ranger is delivered that I may be able to even make a little money on the trade, especially with the $7,500 rebate.

So with the now even more extended wait times the question is: What are you doing in the meantime? Are you buying something else used? Are you repairing your current vehicle? Are you buying something else new (and maybe it is not a 'gap' vehicle, but a long-term own)? Are you ubering everywhere? Are you going Vince Gill and taking your John Deere everywhere...

So, your wanting to buy a brand new high $$$ vehicle as a "gap" vehicle, that you plan on selling in 4-9 months ??? Or did I mis-read, and you already bought the Jeep ?
It's a crap shoot, and your assuming the market for used vehicles will stay high....
But, you also have to consider the used market may take a dump, and prices will lower. Already companies like Carvana are getting rid of employees and lowering their purchase prices.
Taking a chance that your dealer will give you in trade, what you paid for it or what you owe is also a crap shoot.
Add to that, as fuel prices go up, many will be trying to dump their high fuel usage vehicles, and their "toys" to save money.
It's just a possibility, but when your new Ranger comes in, and you try to dump your Jeep, you may be underwater and take a loss.
Opinion...no way would I buy a new high dollar vehicle as a "gap" vehicle ...if you must, I would look for a used vehicle that I could dump in a few months without taking a loss, just a knock around till the Ranger came in.

I am at this point, as I really am leaning towards the EV anyway (I have a Lightning Reservation). I realize the risk, but I think the risk has more to do with recession than with supply chain. That and the fact that I felt there was a larger risk paying the same for a Used vehicle that was 2-3 years old as the current sticker price. And the fact that Wranglers have traditionally held their value even prior to this debacle we are now 2 years into.

As a side note, my 2010 Jaguar that I sold was to the point of needing $4K in repairs to keep it on the road, and I had a cash offer of $1000 less than I paid for it 32 months ago. So I said goodbye to it yesterday. They even paid for my uber home from the dealer.

If I was to get a gap vehicle right now, it would have to be something I was willing to want for a couple years possibly. I've got a feeling the market is going to take a big drop fairly soon and I wouldn't want to get caught having to lose a lot of money on a vehicle. Thankfully, my gap vehicle was exactly what I had ordered, I just happened to find it on the lot at a time that they were willing to drop off the markup.

2021 Ranger Super cab was supposed to be my gap vehicle to get me through the crazy ? , but damn , I'll have to be really impressed with something else to change... It ain't David (Maverick) or Goliath (Lightning)... has to be this size truck ...

same here, sorta - the Ranger was my gap/second vehicle until the Lightning or electric silverado shows up. I just got the 150k mile warranty, so I am planning on keeping it long term. I'm not holding my breath waiting for Ford to fix the demand issues.

The residual on any jeep 4xe should be good and snice he got it under MSRP I am guessing he won't loose much at all. Now I am not sure on the rebate rules and its more a tax break so I would be sure you have enough Tax Lability to use the 7500$ "rebate"

It is a rebate, so you have to have at least $7500 in a tax bill for the year, which I have had the last couple years. And under the current administration I don't see that going down - but that is a different thread that could/would probably get a bunch of us banned. :lipssealed:

The Ranger was my "gap" vehicle; had a maverick on order. Trade-in lost compression in number 2... but happy to have the extra capability now. The more I see the Mav the more I think they are a car with a bed and some changes have happened so I am happy to have the extra towing/cargo, etc. Aka retirement + another job = project car to tow to the track!!!

That and my gas mileage got better as it broke in so I am happier with it (once they sort out the weird noises it makes... but they are working on it... so there is that)

Isn't the gladiator 4xE launching in 2024? Unless you mean the Wrangler. If the Gladiator 4xE was out now It would be worth a look, but I'm guessing we will hopefully have a PHEV ranger by the time the Gladiator 4XE drops.

So see how much of a Jeep guy I really am! I fixed it. It is a Wrangler. Drove the Gladiator and both my boys had Gladiators.

And I am hoping there will be a PHEV ranger as a 6G - or even a carryover in the 5g, if things keep going this way.
