Im getting curious about this leaving the doors open while camping thing.
I have camped alot and cant wrap my head around this. Ive never seen anyone do it personally.
Bugs. Critters and thieves run rampant in campgrounds ive attended.
Park. Doors and liftgate open. Put up tent and start nesting process. Cooler is in the access cab. No reason to open and close doors every two minutes.

Bugs come and go. Critters aren’t interested. Thieves? Hasn’t been a problem. Maybe because we only have the XL trim;)

It helps that we don’t go to ā€˜campgrounds’ typically, so much as the solitude of forest roads and BLM land.

update:

topper off. i removed all three bulbs (middle bulb is brake, side bulbs are the cargo lights). as far as i can tell no alarms and the car didn’t spontaneously burst into flames.

great!

(on ranger 2019 XL needs a torx or hex driver and looks like this with assembly open)

I still would prefer the silent car mod since it kills the headlights, horn, all interior lights as well as the cargo lights when you lock, unlock, or open any door.

cool that you got something that worked for you.

I agree that the bed lights coming on every time you open the doors is annoying. Mine go off 20 seconds after closing the doors and that does seem like an eternity. Wish I could find where to shorten it to maybe 5 or 10 seconds. But 10 minutes, maybe that's the time out with leaving the doors open to save battery. I do have dark car enabled and selectable for use in campgrounds. I may just pull the bulbs as I don't use the cargo lights anyway. Good to know it doesn't throw a code or bulb out warning, probably change the brake light to LED while I have the light off. I have lights in bed under tonneau.

Update, now that I have forscan. With the third brake/cargo bulbs removed there is a code that gets picked up by forscan that seems to suggest the car knows the bulbs are missing, but no dash codes or anything that would tip you off otherwise. Note this is with the topper and new third brake light working, not sure if that matters. We never tried with the bulbs out and no topper/third brake.

Enable the dark car and silent mode mode in Forscan if you're going to be camping around other people. It stops all lights and beeping that this truck loves to do. I have it enabled in the IPC so I can toggle it on and off when I'm camping.
I can't believe this is a thing....What kind of damage can I do to my truck when I mess up using this Forscan???? Is this like CMOS for BIOS? Does dark car also eliminate other lights, like running and parking, or inside cabin lights?

im also interested in whether there is a really granular description of what 'dark car' mode does.

we have it enabled. all i can really say is that i was annoyed by the beeps and lights when parking previous to enabling it, and now i am not. but there are still beeps and lights. it just seems to have changed the nature of the alarm/lighting when parking to a level that doesn't meet my annoyance threshold.

I assumed the dark mode configuration was originally for the police cruisers so the car didnt light up like a christmas tree every time the door was opened. To sneak up on criminals?? Idk
