Went to Costco up in Tucson do grab a few things, get gas and take Annie out for a birthday lunch. We were going to go to a Mexican restaurant but her stomach wasn't feeling up for Mexican today so we'll do it on Saturday so Chili's is was. lol

She's 65 and now she's officially old and a senior citizen. I was going to fill her office with black balloons but I was nice and just got her a cake.

Six more months till 65 can not wait to get the Medicare for $200 per month. Wife has had it for last couple years and way better then the private insurance I pay and arm and leg for.

Trust me I know I was self employed for 36 years and private insurance is wicked expensive, especially now. She just started Medicare on June 1 as it was much better than her work insurance and cheaper too. I learned a lot by seeing what she had to do and go through and it was a little confusing because you're dealing with the SS office, Medicare and the insurance company. It should go smoothly now that it's all set up.

She's not taking SS now and is going to work another 2 years but I'm trying to talk her into retiring next year but really wish she'd just retire now. She still likes her job (most days) and since she works from home now it's so much nicer not having to commute in all that traffic.

Was straight forward for my wife if you collect SS at 62 they automatically enroll you in Medicare at 65. Then we just needed to pick a Medicare advantage plan. Went with a plan from Humana they even credit $50 back to your SS so she only pays a little over $150 per month. My opinion is collect as early as eligible only downfall is if you want to work the penalty is pretty steep. With all the politicians and government officials double dipping and playing the system the private citizen should be able to collect and work without such a severe penalty.

I remember around the time when I joined this forum, thinking how I had five years to go before retirement and the entitlements that come with it.

The next thing I knew, my truck and I were both old.

Yes it's a lot easier when you're already (or about to) take SS because they just directly withdraw it from your check. She has Humana too and they were really helpful. Her plan has part D included for free which was nice and she has a $50.00 benefit card which gets reloaded every quarter that she can use for prescriptions or other things from their list.

As far as when to collect SS that a personal choice but I would never collect it early (especially based on political speculation) because I have longevity in my family and will use it to hedge against inflation and for possible long term care. But I will monitor what the knuckleheads in Washington are doing so I can claim it early if needed. SS insolvency will get fixed but like everything our do nothing government does it'll get dome in the 11th hour and whoever is in office at the time will look like a hero. It'll be similar what they did back in '84 the we were having the same issue were facing now. It'll be political suicide for any party to mess with SS and that party would be gone ASAP! Me and Chris @Chris M were just discussing this a couple days ago.

As far as SS funds being stolen, actually that’s a myth. The SS trust money only went to SS retirement, SS survivor or SSDI. Any surplus bought interest paying Treasury Bonds which have always paid principal and interest on time. The myth money was taken out for general funds goes back to Johnson combining on paper the SS surplus with general tax funds so the balance sheet looked better for war funding but the two were never mixed. Every penny due from SS has been credited.

Funny thing, my auto shop teacher in High School, used a toilet seat with the key on a chain for the Boy's bathroom.
