I got my matching wheel on Ebay from a Ford dealer take off for $145. The wheel never left the dealer until it went in a box to my address. I have a 265/70R17 Continental Terrain Contact A/T mounted on it and it goes up and down every 5000 miles for a 5 tire rotation. No issues but I do use a ratchet strap to carry the weight. As for towing, even if the weight difference was 25 pounds, would it really matter?
I meant the load capacity of the wheel. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I wonder if the spare steel wheel could fail under load when towing because of the forces generated by the trailer on the road.

Another thought is what is the weight difference between the FX4 wheel and the steel wheel that comes on the XL? Of course they would have to be the same size wheel.

I would imagine you could drive it far enough to get the damaged tire repaired or replaced in most suburban or even rural areas. It would seem sketchy to me and 50 MPH for any distance could get old real fast. It is probably no where near the capacity of the real wheels. A couple of years ago, I took a 1000+ mile trip through Navajo Nation in northern AZ to Monument Valley, Canyon De Chelly, 4 Corners, etc. and there was no Verizon cell service and very few places to get anything fixed. Made me glad I had a real spare, compressor and a box of tools. Murphy can be evil. :) I would rather be over prepared than under.

We took that route on our trip back in 2022 and I had done the same prep as you. Having driven that area before your SOL if you're depending on cell service and people are hauling on the strip so good luck hoping someone will stop. It's such a highly traveled road and you'd think by now they'd have put a couple towers out there. There's no way I'll travel that strip at night now.

I think there is only Cellular One in that area. We were in the process of selling our house in Phoenix at the time. We had to pull up close to motel rooms, connect to their open wifi and check text messages from our realtor and reply as needed. At least the Ranger got over 27 MPH for the trip. :)

That explains why my 275/70R17 General Grabber killed my spare tire carrier….

I hope this doesn’t happen to Jeff @jflogerzi

I wonder if the Tremor has a different carrier due to the full-size spare. 🤔
let's hope not 😬

Well, I've had a 255/75/17 spare on a sport wheel for 20.000 miles...maybe I need a tie down strap on there!
