Verrrry important to protect your "damper" in cold weather...extreme shrinkage can be very detrimental to performance of the "in and out" operation of the damper.....Remember he's in Alaska. It's freezing there right now so it'll be slower than ours until it warms up. Even a damper gets shrinkage.
Protecting it with some type of "stretchable cover" or applying some type of lubricant to cover the damper might help...
