The reward once you take that last step!

Before you head up more stair to the tower you can look over the rail to your right which I believe is east. There's 360* views for hundreds of miles up here and it's so worth doing this if/when you're in the area.

You can walk up to the main lookout area which is outside to the left of the upper opening on the tower. From there there's a very steep narrow set of stairs that brings you up to the glass observation deck. The glass is so scratched up you really can't see well or get good pics up there.

You can go down the stairs to a doorway that leads you out where you can walk all the way out to this ledge. Annie wasn't having any of that and while she told me Togo and do it I didn't want to leave her there alone but now I wished I had done it.

Walking back down just after the view area there's an area to tie up your horse and walk up to the tower. We were checking out the horses when the owner and his family came back. We got talking and I asked him if he'd sell me one. ? I figured it'd be worth it if he said yes because I knew I'd never hear the end of it from Annie about this hike.

Yeah that one is really cool. I got a picture of it last year going through it. Luckily no one was coming towards us so I stopped and got a good shot. We might do Needles Hwy and the Wildlife Loop again tomorrow.

Pretty area for sure. Can't remember. Did you drive Spearfish Canyon last year? Rough lock Falls is amazing. And if you continue down that road past the falls, you will find the area where they filmed part of Dances with Wolves.

I am guessing that Roughlock Falls is running strong. Bridal Veil was dumping water like crazy a few weeks ago. We had over 9" of rain in May. It should still be putting on quite a show since we've had at least 3 inches or more so far this month.

Check out Spearfish Falls as well if you are in Spearfish Canyon. It is a really short walk.

We did. We went to Deadwood and did Mount Moriah Cemetery then spent some time in Deadwood. We drove back down Spear Fish Canyon and saw Bridal Veil Falls but somehow missed Rough Lock Falls.

We took it easy today and went to the Prairie Berry Winery that Brian @BS67 had recommended. They have free wine tasting bars and you can sample up to 5 for free. We found 2 we really liked so we bought 2 bottles for now and will probably buy a case and have it shipped.

After that I went exploring down a couple different FS roads just to get MP2 off road a little. There were a few hills and rocky spots but nothing even remotely challenging. It was good to see how smooth the Fox suspension was over the washboards and bumps.

On the way back we ran into (luckily not literally) these guys!
